Ripleychange avatar
I try to change my avatar and get the message "The provided avatar URL does not appear to be accessible."
I use Imgur which provides several options including a direct link. I choose that and its formatting is identical to the pic I wish to replace but no go.
I can post other unrelated pics from Imgur so I'm guessing Imgur isn't the problem.

tatortoddVery few photo hosting sites will host avatars. My understanding is most host's beef with avatars is the number of times per day the photo is accessed.
Every year or two online photo hosts change their policy and all of the sudden Sigforum avatars disappear. I've changed my avatar hosting site at least 4 times and I'm currently paying for ImageShack.
Per Imgur's website FAQ: quote:
What can't I use Imgur for?
You're welcome to use Imgur to host your images, as long as they do not break our Terms of Service. This prohibits using Imgur in the following ways.
- As a content delivery network (CDN). This includes web objects like logos, avatars, icons, banners, and more.

RipleyThanks for doing the legwork, tatortodd.
A change in Imgur policy? Grandfathered in? I've used it for avatars for many many years.

P250UA5There are a few gracious members here that host avatars on their own space. Maybe one of them will chime in

Expert308I have the same problem with imgur. My current avatar is hosted there and has been for years, but I'm unable to change to a different one. Same error message as the OP is seeing. A year ago I was able to change avatars, but not anymore. I'm curious how imgur decides what's an avatar and what isn't, they're all JPGs or PNGs. Size, maybe?
