Get my pies

I have an old Verizon landline service drop at my house that we've never used, it comes off the pole and ends at the NID on the wall in the back of the house where a window will be eventually after we renovate our kitchen next year.

I was reading up on how to go about getting a landline removed and kept seeing horror stories of people having to make dozens of phone calls and it taking months, even a whole year for one person. So I'm thinking I better get this going NOW and not wait until the contractor is cutting a window opening in the wall.

I call Verizon and after going through the usual phone directory games, I get a live American and explain my situation and he says "OK, no problem we'll get that handled!"

He gets my address, looks up the line info and says "OK we may be out there TODAY, but it may be tomorrow or Monday."

OK dude! No problem! Thanks for your quick service! It's very refreshing to see good prompt service and not some sort of Kafka-esque runaround that was going to take months like I was expecting.

WOW! Eek

Nice. It’s alway good to hear everybody hasn’t taken the low road. I switched from Verizon to at&t recently and I have a nagging feeling I made a mistake.

Not sure I'd brag before it's done, but you're lucky it's still Verizon.
If they'd dumped it to Frontier already they would have argued that you don't actually have telephone service and you address doesn't exist.

The frontier riser in my yard got knocked over by a drunk one night. When the tech was putting it back, I stopped by & asked him why he was working on something that didn't exist. He got the joke immediately.

I totally jinxed myself by bragging here. Frown

Verizon called back and said it’s not theirs, they said it may have been Windstream’s and to call them.

So this is how it’s gonna go down? Everyone is going to say it’s the other guy’s line?

I’ll be cutting that damn thing down myself I guess Roll Eyes

I know a guy who had a similar issue once. He cut the line as close to the pole as possible and then removed the box from the house and threw it away. Nothing bad happened to him.
