Ordered the AirPods Pro 2 with hearing aid feature from Best Buy. Was delivered the next day (yesterday), but the shipped box was already opened. This was no accidental drop that resulted in an opened box. Box had zero damage. Just the packing tape was cut, and they just closed it the way we normally secure the top. Inside, the AirPods were still in sealed factory box. There was no packing slip. I opened the factory box to check the contents, and everything was in there and appeared to be not a fake. Took it to the local BB to return, and it was it was the real McCoy. Why would they open the box and just left the real deal in there? Why didn't they just steal it or swap in a fake one? That was very strange.

Would there normally be an invoice in the package with your personal info on it?

^^^ Yes, normally. But, like I said, there was no packing slip. Just the still sealed AirpPods box and packing bubbles.

I received a delivery that turned out not to be mine a few years back. I cut the top tape about the time I read the label. Not my name. I delivered the box to the intended recipient's doorstep (ala UPS) after ringing the bell. No answer, so I left.

I did put a tape on the top to at least keep it closed first though.

Years back I had a K frame S&W built into a custom PPC gun. It shipped back from S. Carolina via UPS. The pistol case was closed on the heavy slab barrel and just 1 piece of cheap packing tape holding a home brewed card board sleeve around it. I figured the driver must have been admireing it. Not a safe practice as it was left on my front porch so packed.

I would return it.

I would want to compare the AirPods (or any other highly counterfeited item) to those in a sealed box in the store. Fakes can look very convincing.

It's just the principle of it. Something I order should arrive packaged unopened. Who knows what was done to it, or if it has been switched out? I know nothing about these type of products, although I said it appeared not fake. Just some quick online checking of real vs fake showed me it's not quite easy.

Also, I didn't have any Apple to do the hearing thing, anyway, although I suppose I could borrow someone's iPhone to do it. But, as noted HERE, what if I need adjustments down the road? Borrow someone else's iPhone again?

No. I mean why return it and not exchange it? I'm assuming you wanted the air pods in the first place.

Edit: Oh. I followed the link in your post after I posted this. So you can't do the hearing thing without an Apple and you have Android. Got it now.

Ordered cat food from Target this past week and the box looked like someone ran over it. Some cans were missing, reached out to them and they sent a new box no charge, received and cat is happy.

I get misdeliveries a few times a year.

I get packages delivered almost daily.

There are plenty of days I just cut the box open.

If it is not something I am expecting, I check the label.

Most of the time, someone at Amazon put the wrong think in the box.

Sometimes it is a wrong delivery.
If it is and they are close, I will drop it off.

If not, I will call the shipper to pick it up.

I called FedEx several times to pick up a wrong delivery, and they never showed.

I stopped a FedEx truck on my street and had almost to force him to take it back to FedEx.

I had an ammo delivery from Bereli for 1k of 9mm ammo. The box was taped up. 150 rounds were missing.
Luckiy, Bereli sent me the missing ammo after I sent photos of the sliced and taped box. UPS.
