LS1 GTONASCAR denies ads for AR-15 and AK-47 as a 'gradual shift on guns'
Well I stopped rooting a while ago.
One of my favorite drivers was Davy Allison. My ex got his autograph for me around 1990. Then he died and I started rooting for Ernie Irvan and my ex got his autograph for me. He died.
When I started rooting for Rusty Wallace my ex had a chance to get his autograph a few weeks before that little rolly polly spin... you'll note, he's still alive.
However, when "the car of the future" and "playoffs, NASCAR style" came out, i stopped following.

I don't follow No Actual Stock Cars Are Racing. When did they
ever accept advertising for ARs and AKs, or
any firearms companies?

No, he said a firearms company- not a phony that used to be a firearms company. I don't know what they do now- airsofts or some such, but what they're putting out are not firearms.

Watched NASCAR in the Rusty Wallace era...he was my favorite driver and team with Robin Pemberton leading the way. Also enjoyed Mark Martin, the Labonte brothers, Dale Jarret, Dale Earnhardt, et. al. Just a GREAT era for NASCAR. Jeff Gorden was kind of the new-comer in that era and was so different from the rest with his California cocky attitude...he was a Yankee.

But I grew to respect him and his driving through the years. Those guys prompted MANY hours of online racing when the video game came out. All through friggin' DIAL UP modem...that's how long ago that was!!
I was a Wallace fan, too. I always thought he came across as a hell of a nice guy and he was a great competitor that never quite achieved true greatness. The Wallace/Earnhardt battles were just the best. Hated The Intimidator in those years but was truly saddened when he died. Guys like Mark Martin and Terry Labonte embodied what the sport was in those days. Mark Martin...what a class act.
I know there are probably a lot of people that would disagree, but I think that stretch (late 80s to early 2000s) is NASCAR's golden era. So much of the empire built in that time. No disrespect to the Yarboroughs and the Pettys, but what a class act of drivers. I remember hating Gordon when he came in. He was the Garth Brooks of NASCAR...not traditional "enough" when he started, but a quintessential part of the sport when he retired.
I think for me Tony Stewart was the first of the new generation of drivers and a shift in the culture. I actually like Stewart alright, but he was a sign of changing times. I probably couldn't name ten guys that are driving now. Dale Jr. was probably the last of the old school to me. I know there is some overlap between him and Stewart, but I think Dale Jr. really did right by his father's legacy.

Swervin' Irvan will gladly come speak from the beyond at your next event for a mere $5-10k.
