We researched pretty well and settled on Leaf Filter brand gutter guards.

The guy comes out for the estimate, does the measurement. I told him I researched it and I'm familiar with the product. Well he had to go through his 20 minute presentation, yada yada yada. Get the price...Like $7500. Holy shit. So we say, that's a hard no. So he then says he has promotions...Am I a Senior: No. Am I Military: No, Healthcare worker: No. Okay, do you have a job: Yes, Save 30%.

Still way too much. Tell him, sorry but too much. Was especting half that.

He leaves. He's in his car for 10 minutes and then rings the bell...Here it comes...

He was on the phone with his manager, they just did a huge condo, they have more material...yada yada yada..

$2460 for the entire job. Just got a $5K discount. LOL. We did our research and were expecting about $2500. It just takes time to get the real price.

These go to eleven.

I had some of those many years ago. Bought a house in 1983 that had them. Maybe not the same brand, but the same thing.

Turns out dirt from the air goes in and builds up, vegetable matter rots on top of them and goes in the gutters and around 15 years later, I hear a boom sound and go outside and the sediment had created a dam in my gutter, then the water built up to the top and was heavy enough to pull out the screws holding the gutter in and down it came.

That shit just pisses me off. He would have been happy to screw you over for $7500 but when you wouldn't bite they keep dropping the price until you say yes. I would have said a hard no at the $2460 price and told him to leave.

They pulled that shit when we bought our destination camper for putting on our lake property until we decide to build. After market warranty hard sell for $7000. Told the guy he was crazy. Took three hard runs at us with the final price being $3000. Same thing "I talked to my manager" and blah blah blah.

Told him if he asked me one more time I'd walk out without the camper and go somewhere else. He finally shut up. Hope your installation goes well companies who work like that are usually scheisters from top to bottom.

The salesman was really ticked with my daughter when she turned down the $6200 estimate for 139 linear feet of Leaf Filter.

What is that stuff made of gold. Holy cow.

When I lived in NJ back in the 90s I had a lot of Oak treas in my yard. The gutters would fill up several times a season. I went to Home Depot and picked up some gutter guards and did it my self. They came in 3ft sections you pushed them barely just under the first course of shingles and they snapped in place to the front of the gutter.
I had about 100 feet to cover and it took me less then a couple of hours and cost less then $500.00.

I recognized their sales tactics immediately, after the initial quote, I said "Lets save both of ourselves some time, give me your I'll sign right now and you do the work tomorrow price" quote dropped almost $4k into the lower range of what I was willing to pay, it's annoying but they did a good job and so far so good.

I am not that patient. Not criticizing you at all. They leave brochures in my mailbox frequently and have endless TV commercials. At least Joe Namath is not shilling for them, even though I DESERVE them. Add used car in your title.

I didn’t expect the “talked to my manager” bit. But to be clear I researched the brands and this is what I wanted. It’s guaranteed and they will fix or clean out gutters if there is an issue. The screen mesh is 316 stainless. I am not ever getting on a ladder high enough to clean my gutters. No way no how. I may own this house 10 years. No longer.

How much would it cost to have my gutters cleaned? I would imagine it is a good 3 hours work. So what am I looking at $3-400? So 6 years or so and it’s paid for. Anyhow I had a price in mind and I got it so regardless of the scam pitch I’m okay with it.

I don't know, but isn't possible that with winter snow/ice buildup you could start a good ice dam backup. Seems like the snow will just sit on the mesh and freeze over at night.

Ours was a little less money, but the exact same story. We're happy with the product so far.

EasyOn 6" stainless steel gutter guards from Costco $2.50 per linear ft is reg price, often on sale for $1.50. I installed these about 5 years ago and they have been trouble free.

It would seem to me that during a heavy rain or thunderstorm downpour, the flow of water would just wash right over these and over the gutter onto the ground. I can see them working for slow gentle rains. Am I wrong? Anybody had actual downpours where all the water DOES still drop into the gutter?

I paid $1127 for Gutter Rx.

They work well.

I paid $175 per cleaning twice a year. So they will pay for themselves in about 3 years.

Mine have never overflowed and have handled downpours.

Edit to add: I did upgrade to 6” gutters

I have the Leaf Filters. The installer was beyond terrible - I was on the phone with the office before he was done and told them they were going to have to send someone up to fix his crappy work. I just wanted him gone. I asked if he owned a level - and he produced a 6" torpedo level - for hanging gutters. He did not expect me to go on the roof and actually look at at the job apparently.

They sent their one-man "fix it guy" a few days later who was superb and re-hung most of the gutters - by himself.

Install nightmare aside - they have been really good - they do not overflow in downpours and have tolerated 5 or 6 winters without having an issue with ice-dams.
