I hope 2000Z-71 is OK - no reports of injuries, but they are worried about the town as there could be another avalanche at any time. It affects an area around the south side of town.

Anyone have a contact on him to check?

Where did it happen? I lived there when I was a kid. Nice town, our back yard backed up to lion park.

That's a big avalanche. I never saw one that large in my 5 years in Anchorage (Eagle River is next city north of Anchorage).

That will take quite a while to clear away. How will the villagers get food?

I was raised in Alaska and most of the people I knew kept enough food around to last for 3 to 6 months.

Those that didn't will probably mooch off their better prepared neighbors.

The dump trucks will haul 24/7. Once the road is cleared, the rest will be there a long time.

My youngest brother was buried in a backcounty snow avalanche, 20 years ago. He was blue and not breathing when he was dug out, but was revived and escaped without any permanent disability. An avalanche expert reported that he was one of the lucky %20 that survive the type and size of avalanche he was buried in.

We have another friend who was part of a climbing party traversing a high altitude boulder field near the summit, when a rock avalanche occurred and they barely got across before the area was swept with boulders.

One of the areas we camped and 4 wheeled in has crushed and broken evergreen tree scars from an avalanche years ago.

Avalanches are nothing to ignore or dismiss.

Really glad no one was killed or injured in the Eagle River one and I hope they are able to evacuate everyone and start avalanche mitigation procedures before the next one.

I won't speculate on why 2000Z-71 isn't commenting. I have my hunches.

No one was hurt in this avalanche. APD has stated that everyone is accounted for. They mandatory evacuated some people who weren't prepared to ride out the event. It's Los Anchorage, a lot of people don't prepare there for emergencies.

If he was displaced to a hotel or something, that I obviously don't know. I don't recall where he lives. If someone knows, I do have the resources to check. Actually, if he owns his house and someone knows his full real name, I can check if the property is in the slide area.

Hopefully he was home, AZ if I recall, and not in the vicinity of this mess.
I don't recall the last time I saw him post here.
