A few years ago when Boosted Board electric longboards were the rage, I really wanted to get one. All I heard from those around me was "You're too old for that", or "You need to act your age", or "You'll end up getting hurt". Admittedly, I am north of 50 years old, but I'm still in good shape with no health issues, so I don't think I have to accept such commentary as the end all of my interests. Well, an acquaintance of mind got one of these this past week, asked me to help him assemble it, and then offered me an opportunity to take it for a spin. All I can say is this thing is pretty cool. And it's a lot faster than I expected. I covered almost five miles in my little test ride before I knew it. The dual motor setup is the bomb for bigger people (like me). And with a range of ~40 miles I could see using this thing to zip around the neighborhood and up to the store for a loaf of bread. So right now I'm debating....Do I act my age as others have quipped, or do I ignore them and opt for one of these. I'm leaning toward the latter. ----------------------------- Guns are awesome because they shoot solid lead freedom. Every man should have several guns. It depends if you live in a small town or city sure go for it. Otherwise keeping away from traffic not paying attention and potholes would take the fun out of it and would be ripe for a broken wrist or collarbone.

I'm with you on the potential for injury, but the dual suspension setup and tubeless tires really made for a pretty compliant ride. They won't soak up everything, but they did handle the majority of the bumps I hit pretty darn effectively. ----------------------------- Guns are awesome because they shoot solid lead freedom. Thank you Very little |
I'm not a fan of the small wheels, it does look cool. Get one of the Razor Metro Smart Scooters, it's going to be faster (18 mph), more stable larger wheel diameter and has a cart for a 12 pack and some meat sticks.... Granddaughter had one, it's now the grandsons, kids in the neighborhood on those little scooters challenged him to race, after he lapped them around the circle, they know better.. My daughter and her husband can ride it since it's bigger and has plenty of power... Razor Metro Scooter Link

I have no idea how to act my age. I’ve never been this old before.

Check the stats on that scooter. It has three drive modes, and in mode 3, claimed top speed is 40mph. I only rode it in mode 1, at which point I got up to ~23mph which was plenty for me (at least for now ). It also has a claimed range of ~40 miles which is pretty impressive. ----------------------------- Guns are awesome because they shoot solid lead freedom. Every man should have several guns. True that one is fast, but still prefer the larger tires over small ones...

Check local laws…most localities have laws about scooter speed and equipment. Also, the ground gets harder the faster you go…LOL. _____________________________ Pledge allegiance or pack your bag! Hey bigdeal, how does it do on slopes? Maybe not a good idea to ask someone in Florida but are there limits/recommendations? And what about braking downhill? Set the controls for the heart of the Sun.

I will dissent. Horrible idea. My kids had all the Razors growing up. They are fun. They are also pretty easy to get squirrelly. I can’t imagine one that can go very fast. If you want electric fun without a guarantee hospital visit I think the e bike thread is a better idea. On the other hand it seems like fun and maybe it’s not as bad an idea as it looks.

Looks like a good way to get hurt. But maybe just to scoot around on sidewalks or well paved roads in a quiet neighborhood or gated community. No car is as much fun to drive, as any motorcycle is to ride.

Two miles to the nearest paved road, so it's out for me... but I can dream. === I would like to apologize to anyone I have *not* offended. Please be patient. I will get to you shortly.

My other Sig is a Steyr. |
I could ride one of those and it would get me to the ER.

My cousin who is 12 years younger than me, brought over his new Onewheel to see if I wanted to try it. I tried it just a bit and said HELL NO! At 64, I don't trip and fall gracefully anymore. It goes 18 mph, at least 6 times faster than I have fallen at before-- meaning broken Wreckdiver, no work Wreckdiver---- Wreckdiver is smarter than that these days!! _________________________________________________ "Once abolish the God, and the Government becomes the God." --- G.K. You have cow? I lift cow! |
We have an electric scooter and I love that thing. Great for going to the park or neighborhood and stuff. I find myself wanting a bigger badder version, even though ours goes about 15mph or something. When I first rode it, there were some close calls. You can eat shit on these in no time, and I'm too old to be bouncing off the pavement and too cool to wear a helmet or protective gear. So, don't fall.
