We are on the gulf coast in Naples. Our evacuation plan was to go to Orlando, but it looks like that may not be good enough. Considering maybe heading into Georgia. Possibly all the way up to Atlanta.

It's a simple thing to be prepared. I try to increase preparation each year. I'm not done yet.

patwIt was just by good fortune I bought extra water and x2 propane tanks prior to even hearing about the storm. Gas stations are dry and stores are empty where I am located. God bless you all.

I live in the Orlando area. As ArtieS pointed out on the previous page of this thread, the forecast is not showing anything "interesting" for our area.
The heaviest day is forecast to be Sunday, with about an inch and a half of rain, wind gusts maybe hitting 40 mph. Monday is similar, slightly less rain, slightly less wind. Tuesday's forecast shows the rain ending by sunrise, and Wednesday looks like a range day, sunny, no rain in the forecast.

U.S. Virgin Islands seizing guns, ammo in anticipation of Irma The governor of the U.S. Virgin Islands has ordered the territory's national guard to begin seizing guns and ammunition from citizens in preparation for Hurricane Irma's landfall.
In an executive order signed Monday, Gov. Kenneth Mapp instructed Adjutant General Deborah Howell "to take whatever actions she considers necessary to carry out the assigned mission" of maintaining and restoring public order.
"The Adjutant General is authorized and directed to seize arms, ammunition, explosives, incendiary material and any other property that may be required by the military forces for the performance of this emergency mission," the governor said in the order.
The order went into effect Tuesday at 12:01 a.m.

Ironmike57We evacuated from one storm and headed north to Atlanta. When we found out there were no hotel rooms available until Valdosta,
we made a u turn at Fort Pierce.

ZSMICHAELThere is no easy solution here. I have evacuated for several storms. I have also stayed through several high Category three storms. I live about ten miles from the beach. Both solutions suck. Being without electricity, sewer services, law enforcement and basic communications for several weeks is no fun. Of course you immediately know how much damage you have, but there is very little you can do to mitigate it.
Evacuating is a nightmare. Sitting in your car in bumper to bumper traffic for 20 hours or more. When you reach your destination, you then get to view the aftermath on TV. It is better if you have a neighbor that stays and can let you know how your property fared. You often will not be allowed back in the area for some time unless you have medical or law enforcement credentials.
If you have been advised to evacuate please do so.

A couple days ago a satellite measured the wave height in the NE quadrant at 51'. Imra gerd. Unfortunately the Caribbean will take a heavy sideswipe. Don't wait til it's too late to be told you don't need to leave. Be safe all.

jigray3I've been through a Cat 1 hurricane evac on the Outer Banks, and we made it out of the parking lot before stopping completely in the traffic jam to get off the island. Southern Florida is going to be evacuation hell.

SigSentryStrongest Atlantic storm in recorded history looks to go right up Florida. Florida Keys by the ninth. I bet airports alter traffic by then.

Will do. Remember if they order an evacuation be prepared to leave. The killer is the water, ie storm surge. Nothing is worth your life. Locally, a number of people died because they did not get water in Camille, which was a Category Five. Katrina was only a strong Category Three but its storm surge was deadly. A friend of mine, a meteorologist no less, had to be evacuated by boat from the hotel which was not far enough inland. He survived, but lost everything. He lived in Waveland, MS. which caught the eyewall of Katrina.
