Probably one of the most stress free and happy times in my life. That was my back yard guys. Barbers Point Hawaii looking at a carrier enter Pearl Harbor circa late 1980’s probably 1987 or 1988. One of the prouder moments of my life, my previously wayward grandson graduating from Parris Island. Turned a juvenile delinquent into a man. Another source of pride: My great-grandchildren. This one is the youngest, daughter of the young man to my left in the previous picture. I'm a pretty simple guy, simple things give me pleasure. Be careful when following the masses. ^^^ That’s great Paul! Absolutely there is nothing better or more fulfilling as a human than seeing your children be well and prosper. (Been through the trials and tribulations as well.) Can anyone identify the aircraft carrier in that pic? It looks like a #6 is visible on the tower but when I compare it to the USS Bonhomme Richard (#6) it doesn’t look right. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The price of liberty and even of common humanity is eternal vigilance

LHD 6 was not commissioned until 1998 so not her. There were 10 carriers with a 6 in their ship number in that timeframe. Harshest Dream, Reality

By using a process of elimination, it's CV-67 USS Kennedy. CV-65 (Connie): Island placement is further forward than in the picture. CV-66 (America): Can't see the second "6" on the island. CV-68 (Nimitz) and -69 (Ike): Their masts are further aft on the island than in the picture. "The Truth, when first uttered, is always considered heresy."

ltz400, not that I doubt you, I don’t but why are you so certain? I am genuinely curious as this picture has sparked considerable debate over which carrier is pictured amongst my family. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The price of liberty and even of common humanity is eternal vigilance

Let me try to redeem myself: The Kennedy was on the East Coast in the late 80's as per your post. So was the USS America. The Connie (CV-64) was a West Coast boat during that time frame. There's an outside chance it could be the Kitty Hawk (CV-63), but you can't convince me the second digit on the island is a "3". More likely it's a "4". Late 80s deployments of West Coast CV's was USS Ranger CV-61 Deployed WESTPAC July 87 to Jan 88 and again in Feb 89 to Aug 89 (I was in this Battle Group) USS Kittyhawk CV-63 Left on a world cruise Jan 87 ending in Philadelphia USS Constellation CV-64 April to October 1987 "Blessed is he who when facing his own demise, thinks only of his front sight.” Malo periculosam, libertatem quam quietam servitutem Montani Semper Liberi
