Bad way to start the week.

I probably wore out many reset buttons before I found out that the problem is outside.

"Amazon's cloud services unit, Amazon Web Services (AWS), is recovering early Monday morning following an outage that caused connectivity issues for companies and disrupted services for popular websites and apps.

Among those impacted were video game Fortnite, social media app Snapchat and graphic design platform Canva.

"The underlying DNS issue has been fully mitigated, and most AWS Service operations are succeeding normally now," AWS said in its 6:35 a.m. ET update.

"Some requests may be throttled while we work toward full resolution," AWS said, adding that it will continue updating customers. "

My Ring devices still worked as normal, just the app was affected. I could view the cameras via Ring's website but not on my phone, alarm switched over to cellular backup and functioned normally. Everything seems to be back to normal now.

Hmmm. My credit union's web site is having problems today. Login and account access are really iffy, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I don't know if the CU system is built on AWS or not, but AWS is making inroads everywhere. Before I retired in `22 we were just starting to use it.

Our 3rd party email security service is AWS hosted. We haven't been able to get any inbound email from external sources all day.

Seeing a few start to trickle in, but it's been a very quiet morning.

It's a bit of a crapshoot as to what's broken, what's working when.

The final root cause analysis report will be pretty interesting.

Spoken as someone who's generally elbows deep in AWS through the working day.
