^^^ this is key, not cal-counting or starvation.

I would highly recommend looking at a diet that deals primarily with carbs.
Believe me, once the light goes on and you understand it becomes an almost cult-like phenomena.
The reason being that you finally understand...
Carnivore and Keto seem extreme to many but take the time and consider what is right for you, and I say that it may not be exactly right for everyone but maybe most everyone regardless of metabolic type or at least a variation that fits you.

Made my first weight loss goal thursday.
100 pound weight loss in five days short of a year.

If I can lose three pounds a month for the next year , I will be elated.

Working the Peloton, walking, and occasional weights into the game. Wearing a Garmin Fenix 7 pretty much exclusively unless I’m going ‘out’ and throw on the Marathon.

Reviewing the tracking numbers over the past year or so, I am shocked at how much a few beers and a cigar affect my HR, sleep and overall numbers. On the flip side, I am equally surprised at how quickly my resting HR plummets and my sleep improves after a few days of cardio and no beer or cigars; definitely has affected how often (and how much) I do have when I choose to partake in a cigar and bourbon.

Started with Spartacus workout a few times a week back early in December late November. Then moved over to Spartacus 2.0 x2-x3 times a week. It's a hell of a workout. Been doing it with a single kettlebell & have worked up to a #45 one. Probably due to move up to the #55.

Scales say I started at about #215 and I'm hanging out around #205 now. But I've got WAY more muscle on me and if I flex I can actually see some ab muscles on top abs & on sides.

So I'm getting there. Plus doing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu x4-x5 days a week. But at about x5 years into that. It's not as much of a workout anymore cause I'm just more efficient.

I really should dial in my diet more. Kick the alcohol and carbs. I'd love to get down to a athletic #190 - #195. That'd probably be my ideal "fighting weight". Where I'd be strong and lean at the same time.

I'd typically been pretty slim most of my life, then fell in with a poor group of friends & gained a good bit of weight due to lots of drinking (and poor diet impulse control).

6' / 235# was where I ended up at for years.

Went to a low carb diet 5 years ago + walk 5-6 days a week. Lost 40#, felt good. Got lazy, discipline fell off, and was recruited into a work-from-home position, so back up to 225# for the last few years.

My youngest son, wife & I have been doing the 'Starting Strength' routine for couple months now + walking 4 nights a week. Combine that with watching calories instead of fad dieting (low carb). Down to 212# and more to go. I'm just as happy that the wife is lifting with us along with she and I both losing weight & gaining strength. This routine is going to be much easier to stick with.

Prepping for Memorial day Murph. Weighing in still around 205#.

Yesterday I did 3 miles of rowing, 100 pull ups, 200 pushups, and 300 squats.

I'm fairly wrecked. But not as wrecked as last time I tried it. Stay on the path guys! I actually slipped into some 34" waist jeans last week & wearing some old workout shorts I haven't worn in a LONG time.

I have actually gained weight:

-weight lifting 3 times a week
-Brazilian Jiu Jitsu 3-4 times a week
-kickboxing once a week
-try to get in a long bike ride (12+ miles) once a week

Somehow I need to fit 1-2 sessions of dedicated cardio in there.

October seems to spark my bio-hacking interest after annual bloodwork/ physical. I recently started taking methylene blue. Doesn't show up in my urine for 24-36 hours so I'm trying to determine a minimum dose. So far about .5ml every other day. Interesting history. USP grade is pretty cheap so we'll see if it shows any of the benefits that are reported.

Hello! Jumping in here. I started Keto on September 24th and was weighing in at 280 pounds. This morning I'm at 246 pounds, so that's 34 pounds in less than 2 months! My goal weight is 200 pounds. So I'm almost at the half-way point.

All my clothes in my closet fit now! I'm wearing shirts that I haven't worn in years! It's like getting a whole new wardrobe! I'll check in with more progress. I've been taking pictures to show progress. I'll share them when I reach my goal.

Tony.

I wear a Garmin Fenix7 most days and at night, I’m often shocked at the ridiculously noticeable difference I see in my sleep, my resting heart rate, blood pressure and my respiration on weeks where I’m consistently working out versus weeks where I am not.

Another major “ah-ha” I have had, is alcohol; specifically in my sleep. Nights where I have a few beers, my sleep score is in the low 40s and a “poor“. A night where I drink nothing, my sleep scores are in the high 70s and fair to good.

Again, I don’t necessarily feel all that difference, but the watch definitely picks up the differences in my overall body health.

It doesn’t take much.

Seems like a good time to revive this thread.

To all with a healthy goal for 2025, Lets GO!!!!

I am back on the wagon, No Alcohol, No Sugar, Little Carbs until the scale is at goal. Then weekly weigh in to make sure I don't mess myself up again.

Looking back over the 6 years, how is everyone doing now? sticking with it? off and getting back on?

Do, Or do not. There is no try.

I’m embarrassed to admit the amount of money I have spent on personal trainers over the years. For the past few months I have been using ChatGPT as a nutritionist and personal trainer, the impact it has had on my overall health, fitness and VO2 performance is ridiculously positive.

I’m down 60 pounds now. I started at 285 and am down to 227 this week. My original goal was 225 but I’m now shooting for 200 and I’ll see where I go from there. I just turned the clock back to 2002. That's the last time I was 225. When I married in 2006, I was 235, so my wife has never known me this light. I was 205 when I got out of the Marines in 2001.

Still on keto and carnivore.
On a cruise last year...

Doing some gardening this weekend.

I previously participated in a clinical trial(for cardiovascular effects) using semaglutide. Over four years, I lost 90 lbs. I moderated my diet, and over time, both my wife and I began exercising, mostly walking. I still have additional weight to shed, and after a respite my Dr. placed in another trial, this time a combination on semaglutide and another Norvo Nordisk drug, cagrilintide. After a year or so, results:
Current weight, plus approximately 13 pounds from previous low.
Exercising more/better, but
Diet has regressed somewhat,
Overall I attribute my current status to my comfort levels at my current weight as well as apparent diminished effectiveness of the clinical trial medication (if I’m not receiving a placebo).
Have a 6 month wellness visit, we’ll have a discussion about my status. We’ve had a busy year for retired folks, but things are slowing down, I hope to get back on the straight and narrow as far as being stricter on my diet, improving my exercise routines, etc. I may or may not stay in this clinical trial, since I haven’t seen results to my past experience, with more inconvenient side effects.

My takeaways are diet matters, in my case I had good experience counting calories. I definitely need to moderate sugars/carbs. Exercise matters, I need to improve/expand my routines. Medication helps but can’t replace diet and exercise.

I was put on Mounjaro back in December and I've lost 35lbs with zero effort. From 192 to 157. ALL of my panels come back in the green now.
