Ugh. I wrote a whole response but my iPad erased it! In a nutshell I have many cameras, I never open the door for anyone I don’t know, I watch what they do after I don’t answer, and I am always armed when I open the door or even when I have known company in the house. Doors fully locked at all times and I have reinforced the front door. My wife does not open the door unless she knows who it is and sees them on camera.

My wife won't answer the door. I usually do. With my hand on the collar of my 80lbs lab, and my other lab behind him barking her fool head off. So far no one has tried me. Usually can't wait to get off my porch.

Very few ever come unexpected. Just a few times a utility worker may come by. I think even the Jahova witness people gave up.

It’s quiet & private here. As posted above, I let my German Shepherd answer the door if needed.

A few years ago when I shot multigun, I was doing dry fire transition drills in my plate carrier, with a suppressed rifle and a pistol when there came a knock, knock at the door.

The Jehovah’s Witnesses freaked and have never been back.

Nobody likes strangers showing up unannounced, especially these days. A couple of weeks ago, the missus and I were arriving home and found a couple of Jehovah’s Witness types ringing the doorbell. The Aussie inside was barking up a storm. We live in a private neighborhood with signage that clearly says “private property no soliciting” at the entrance of our dead end road. I pointed up the driveway and said “the exit is that way- you are trespassing”. The guy in charge started to blather something about “just wanting to talk to some of our neighbors…” to which I cut him off and said “you’re not neighbors, you’re trespassers. Leave”. I’m not a small guy and I’m sure my demeanor was sending them all kinds of subliminal messages. Flustered, they got into their car and left.

Dangit, guys!
After reading this thread yesterday, I had a dream last night about three guys coming to the door. They clearly weren't who they claimed to be, and I had no method of defending myself against three.

If they can dress as a utility worker they can dress as a Jehovah’s Witness.

I go out my garage door and tell them to step away from the door and ask them what do they want? I have a P-30 in my hand.
Doors always locked when working in the yard and I have a 380 in my pocket also.

I’ve mentioned it before in this forum but I’ll reiterate here.

This happened last year about 5 miles from where I live….
A homeowner, who lived on several acres of land noticed a guy walking along under some high voltage power lines along the back of his property taking pictures (with a telephoto lens, no less).Given the remoteness of his property the homeowner went out to investigate.

They had some words and the homeowner didn’t like what he heard and to make a long story short he shot him stone cold dead…

The homeowner is a Tier One operator out of Ft. Bragg. It turns out that the deceased was not an employee of the utility company he claimed to be and was a Russian here on a “Tourist” Visa.

No charges were filed.

Most definitely! I had already figured out what I wanted from Amazon but was waiting on the funds. This incident will most definitely push it to the top of my "wish list" that I have there!

I work for a family business that is owned by a Jehovah, so when they come a calling I usually know one of them. If not I just say, "I'm secure in my faith, thank you." I've never had one try to push past that. My father in law is an ordained minister and when I tell them that they can't wait to get away from me. Don't know what's up with that, and I've never asked.

I might also add I have a steel security storm door both front and back, and are locked 24/7. So, no one is going to open that on their own. And, I have a ring door bell so everyone is on camera.

We just got a Eufy video doorbell. No subscription required, video is stored on an SD card in the linked inside chime unit.

Can't give you a range report yet, I'm going to install it as soon as I have time, maybe tomorrow, but I picked the Eufy specifically because it does not require a subscription.

I have a Eufy wireless camera that monitors the front door. Pan and tilt, spotlight can be turned on when needed and two way voice communication and records events either in stills or video. WiFi and no subscription. Had it for over a year and I love it. I was worried about the performance at 20 below temps but it never skipped a beat. I love it when I'm at the lake place and I get alerts. I can see if it's a package delivery or one of the kids came to the house to pilfer our freezer! Oh it's also solar powered. One of the easiest things I have ever installed.

I don't answer the door for strangers, can't tell you how many times I've just left them standing there. They can stand there until the end of time for all I care.

Had a 20 something knock saying he was “ collecting for soldiers.” No ID, handouts, form or clipboard.
I closed the door and called 911. The first question was “Is he still there?” While our city police are good, I was surprised at the response. One Sergeant and a patrol car. Then another drove past. They seemed to know him and I watch him being told haw cuffs went on.
They seemed to know him and didn’t come and knock on my door.

That is exactly the one I have chosen, and will add the remote chime so I don't have to rely on my phone for that feature. Total cost for both is around $140.00 so I just don't have the money right now, but will get it as soon as possible.

Not intentional, but the barking of my two German Shepherds when someone shows up unannounced, causes most to back well away from my front door.

Dang...
When I'm working at home, when the weather is nice, I often don't even close the front door. The storm door keeps the bugs out and my dog likes to watch outside.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."
