To the OP, I still have the set of chains I bought in the late 1980's for my 1983 S-10 2WD truck. When we had the blizzard in 1993 I had no issues taking a co-worker home, then myself and a hitchhiker home in snow that was over my boot tops. Snow is no joke here in the South.

Does the "Yankee" BS offend anybody else or am I just too sensitive?

I've never heard of a Yankee being offended by being called a Yankee. Then my answer is, yes you are sensitive, for a Yankee.

Definitely true! I went to college in MN, never needed snow tires, at least while in town. My last winter there I drove a Ford Maverick, not exactly the best snowmobile on the market, and was fine. Got back to IL and had to be pushed off a spot of left-over ice in a parking lot at a regional airport.

I actually misread the "offense" question - I though he was asking if the ball busting going on was offensive by the "yankees" .

Now I see he's asking if the term "Yankees" is offensive.

Chains definently can help, although I have never used them. MA had certain rules or dates you could use them, I don't think ME did. I was born in Boston and lived many years in Maine. I love the snow. I love the cold. I HATE the humidity, with a passion. I don't mind heat, spent many years in deserts, now I actually enjoy them. But NC humidity? Keep it. I'll take 20 degrees and snowing over 78 and humid as crap. Ugg. The kids at work make fun of me because I still haven't put my "winter" windbreaker on yet. It's only gotten to maybe low 40's so far where I am, no outer garment needed yet (although I'm headed to Boston in a few weeks, gotta dig the Carhart out).

Here in ENC there are people from everywhere and honestly the majority of the poeple you see in the ditch are the guys from up north. They think they can drive so much better than the southerners in the little bit of snow we might get. VT, NH, MI, always see those plates poking up out of the ditch. While 4WD may allow you to drive faster, it dosen't allow you to stop faster.

The southerners are smart, they stay home.

(The best snow I remember was the blizzard of '78 in Boston, and when I was visiting ME in 2007).

Yes yes, the mythical Southern Snow. Wink

Believe it or not, that happens up North too. Or at least it did when I lived there.

Ok, who is walking to work, uphill, both ways???

The snow we get is slush at first.
Then 6" drops on top of slush.
It's funny watching all the experts end up smashed into trees.

I have 2 sets for my AWD Honda.
Had to chain up the front to climb Doll Mountain.
A BMW and an Honda Accord both were buried in ditches.

The OP was just sharing his fun in the snow with a pic and video.....how in the hell did this turn into a "my dick is bigger than yours" contest?

He asked who was laughing at his chain and people responded 'me me me'.

Hardly a dick measuring contest IMO - well, there is the issue of ruler calibration - but that was just an observation.

Right now in northern Mn we have more inches of ice on the lakes than we do inches of snow on the ground. I can still see the grass on my entire lawn.
Lived here all my life except a couple years in western Montana. Never been without a 4wd vehicle. If I can't get around in that (which has yet to happen) I either just stay home or take out the side by side for shits and grins!

Yeah, still works that way. It's generally fairly mild during the bigger storms. The air is just too dry to produce much snow when it's below zero. The fun part is that often after a day of slippery snow in the 20s, the cold front moves through, drops the temp and freezes it SOLID for a week.

To all the GDY who laugh at Southerners and Snow:
The thing you might remember before you laugh at us too hard are the following:
1. We get snow once or twice a year. It doesn’t pay for us to invest too much in snow removal equipment that isn’t hardly used any more than you might buy Suntan Lotion. Also Snow Removal equipment is slightly more expensive than Suntan Lotion.
2. Since it never gets too cold here, when we get winter weather, it typically goes back and forth right at the freezing temperature. This means we get black ice, and there ain't nobody can drive on black ice.
3. North Georgia is NOT flat. It is very hilly and this means that with the addition of any ice, our roads become large Luge runs.
4. Along the same lines as #1, we don’t invest in “snow tires” or “studs” because we just don’t get enough snow to worry about. We also don’t get a chance to “practice” our snow driving like you Northerners do for 6 months out of the year.

Must use the term differently around here than in your locale. Pretty much exclusively a negative connotation here. Be like calling a Marine "Jarhead." I suppose it could be acceptable in company of friends, but would likely start a fight in any other circumstance. Kinda like the bless your heart conversations that happen around here. Intent is important.

I envy the fact you don't have to worry about you're vehicles failing from rust before they do from mechanical issues. I would love to have pristine sheet metal over 5 years old be the rule instead of the exception.

I took me like 65 min to drive 11 miles from work today because there were like 6 flurries in Charlotte. Growing up in NJ driving in snow even before the roads were plowed was just a thing you grow up doing. No biggie. I remember driving my 1991 Camaro during the blizzard of 96 when we got hit with like 30 inches of snow. I didn’t get stuck once and I was 17. The possibity of some trim will make teenagers do some stupid things Big Grin

Funny. I drove my Formula WS6 in the same storm, and I was also 17. Not the smartest move, went to a party at a friends house, car was completely buried by the plow in the AM. Had to stay there two days until my dad felt like picking me up.

The only time I have ever used chains it was on a fire engine.
We had a 36 inch snow storm and thought it would be a good idea.
It wasn't.
