probably a good thing I don't have a cut |
I don't care if we change the time or not but if we stop doing it I think we should stay on standard time and not on DST. Because it's standard. That's the only reason.

Prepared for the Worst, Providing the Best |
Agreed. Daylight hours in the morning aren't as useful to me as some extra daylight after work. Even when I worked nights, it was nice to have more daylight after I woke up on my days off. Either way, though, it would be nice to get rid of the stupid biannual time change.

They've been speculating the end of clock switching for most of my adult life. I doubt we're done.

That HAVE to do away with DST. It's the only way they can reintroduce it once again in a couple years, to save us all in the name of climate change.

Don't Panic |
Would be happy to lock in Daylight Saving Time one Spring, and just forget about changing from then on. I don't mind changing in Spring, but this 'falling back' to daylight stealing time is for the birds.

Thank God Arizona doesn't play the spring forward, fall back game. I absolutely hate it. It always screws up my internal clock for a while.

I don't care if it's standard time or DST, but pick one and make it permanent! _____________________________ "The problems we face today exist because the people who work for a living are outnumbered by those who vote for a living." Or at least split it by what zone it is geographically in. I drive N-S every day & cross the time zone 2x (knox to gibson counties). At least it's better than when I was a kid & some counties didn't change times, so sometimes were were the same time, sometimes we were different.

When we first moved to AZ 8 years ago, a state legislator suggested AZ follow the rest of the country. They darn near lynched that fellow!

I, for one, like the program of standard and DST going back and forth each spring and fall. The reason for me is that it keeps sunrise fairly consistent all year long. In early June it's at 6:27am. In mid January it's 7:19am. Were we to stay on DST, as the stupid bill in the Senate tried to do, the January sunrise in Orlando would not be until 8:19am. I have no interest in darkness until after 8am. And if you were / are further north, let's say Grand Rapids, MI, then under DST the January sunrise would not happen until 9:13am.

Looks like the Senate passed the bill by unanimous voice vote, then it was sent to the House. When it arrived at the House in March '22, it was "Held at Desk," which I had to look up. Apparently that term means "A maneuver reserving the right of action on a measure to the full Chamber, rather than to a committee." Seems this is either a way to hold it for a time when the Chamber has all members present, or a way to stall the bill indefinitely or kill it with time. ________________________________________________ "You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom. If you wake up the same time each day, then it should matter to you because the "same time" would actually be one hour earlier or later than the previous day when the clocks change due to daylight savings time. I wish they would stop the moving clocks one hour back and forward but I want them to settle on standard time. "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Same here. It messes with me for months, each change, coming and going. For the first time in my life, I don't have to deal with this nonsense. But I am trading one problem for another:
Would ya'll kindly join us in The Way Things Oughta Be? I don't buy the argument to keep it on DST to have "more daylight hours." Maybe it's nice in some places, but having the sunset at about 9pm in the dead of summer in Washington played hell with my system, and it was a battle to get my kid to sleep. I actively hated it. You want more daylight hours? Get up earlier. Some of us have kids to put to bed. ______________________________________________ Carthago delenda est

Optimistic Cynic |
I always get a pittle peeved when I hear "time change." How could time possibly change? What is changing is the time zone, much as if you are relocating from New York (EST) to Chicago (CST). Nobody seems to boohoo about adjusting their watch when changing geographic time zones. Before time zones were established, clocks were set by observing noon on specific days of the year, so every little town had a different clock setting. The noon set still has a place in navigation where it is used to observe longitude by measuring local time against a chronometer set to UT/GMT. You can tell it is noon when the shadow cast by a vertical object stops getting shorter. This is surprisingly accurate.

Very cool. People can't live without inanimate objects ( guns) Talking about how clocks are ruining their lives Why not follow the sun? Screwed the clocks. Start school 25 minutes after sun rise. Run the garbage trucks right at sun rise. Start planting the fields again at sun rise Air travel doesn't matter in the least , people will travel any dam time you tell the that the plain is leaving. Happy hour starts at sun set. Lunch is when ever the boss says it is. This shit about all matters must conform to what a clock tells you is for the birds. Safety, Situational Awareness and proficiency. Neck Ties, Hats and ammo brass, Never ,ever touch'em w/o asking first

The current bill in progress doesn't eliminate it... it make it permanent. DST would be the new Standard time. If passed... we would go back to DST in the spring '23 and stay there. As I understand it states could opt out. Collecting dust.

Ya gotta love that jagged diagonal line. In the old days, you went South in the Summer and North in the Winter. Going South in the Winter you entered another time zone.
