I will second GoRuck Simple pants. Especially the mid-weight ones. Expensive. Made in the US. I Was skeptical but tried a pair. They are better quality than anything else I have tried. You can wash them, roll up and squeeze in a towel and hang them to dry, in 30 minutes you can wear them. They fold super small. Will probably fit in a sandwich size ziploc when folded.

I have 2 pair now. Went to Scotland recently for 5 days and that’s the only pants I took. Wore a pair, put a pair in my bag. Washed them in the sink at the hotel. No problem! The mid-weight can look fairly dressy. Definitely not slacks, but they will pass with a nice shirt and shoes.

I’m a believer now. Will buy more. I was hooked on jeans. These are better. Better looking, very comfortable when it’s hot out. Great to travel with. Dries crazy fast.

The GoRuck pants look nice, but unfortunately, they don't make/carry my size. The Vertx pants, like so many others suggested here, look too "tacticool" for my purpose.

Dressy-casual. As a photographer, I want to be able to bend, straddle and clamber, but I also want to look decent with a blazer (and perhaps a tie).

I’m in Europe and wearing some Kuhl pants, try several different types as they have a variety of fits. Also, check out Carryology.com they have a sub section re travel clothes, some good advice and brands I’ve not heard of before

Costco sells a very inexpensive travel pant. I have three pairs in various colors that I wear when i'm headed for a long drive or a flight. They are around $15 or so.

I would LOVE to have some of these. Unfortunately, these are like most (all?) of the pants that Costco sells. Longest inseam offered is 34". Nothing available for us normal sized people

who need a 36" inseam.

I have the opposite problem with Costco clothing. Most of their items are for the larger and extra-larger fit. I'm a 31" waist.

My travels usually involve jeans, hiking shoes, and lots of camera gear.

This trip will still involve camera gear, but less scrambling over rocks and canyons, and more walking/exploring city streets and environs.

Evenings will likely require "dress-up" attire. I'd like some pants that will satisfy both.

Is that too much to ask?

For all intents, a pant that has a few hidden pockets, where you can squirrel-away your passport/ID and some cash. For tourists or, infrequent travelers, who are going to be in areas where pick-pocketing is common, such features are nice peace of mind.
Clothing today is better designed, with enough features, where you aren't standing-out, holding up the cash register line as you're fumbling with your money belt, necklace or, whatever hidden contraption.
Call it travel pants or, elevated security apparel.
