A Happy and Blessed New Year to all of you here. I am grateful to have found this wonderful place, and for the ones that run and inhabit it. My daily fix of sanity.
Originally posted by parabellum: <SNIP> Lastly, I will add a word of guidance and caution for the coming year- watch what you say on these pages. Temper your remarks. Think twice before you post. Places where conservatives gather, places such as his forum, are being closely monitored. It is not my intention to be dramatic; it's quite simply the truth. No one here needs to change what they are doing, just keep doing it and be ever mindful of the times we live in and the attrition of our freedoms.
Thank you for your acknowledgment of the membership here, Para. I wish you a safe and healthy New Year.
Regarding what you say above, I cannot agree any harder on your words of warning. In February it will be 1 year since the other forum that I used to frequent went dark. I had been an active member and moderator there 10+ years and was as close to many on that site as I am to members here. We had a tight group, no advertisements (member supported) and a number of the same threads/discussions that we have on SigForum.
It was a military based site and forum ownership is/was a GS in Virginia. Because of some of the political discussion on the site, it had been flagged by ‘someone’ and with the incoming 2020 Administration, certain active-duty members dropped from the site and eventually the forum owner felt the pressure to shut the site down completely.
As Para said, “… be ever mindful of the times we live in and the attrition of our freedoms”

This special and necessary place... full of many fantastic people - warts and all... and as for me, I'm as flawed as anyone else in my own ways, and receive no real pleasure from my harsh words and contentious exchanges when such things occur, even when necessary or justified, and I am forever my own harshest critic offline anyway. It's always difficult, terse or caustic exchanges, much like watching your own parents argue, or fighting with your own brothers/sisters/fellow foxhole occupants.
These are outrageously wild times, and the-crazy shows no signs of slowing down.
But as hokey as it sounds, the only way we'll survive in the long term, much less succeed and prosper in our common goals, is to continue to work together against our common political foes and personal challenges, of which there are many. So so many.
Anyway.
May 2022 be a vast improvement over the last two years for each of you and yours.
