Just a little trick for you - if you go to the website of the product you are looking for they will very often provide you the names/locations of stores that carry the product. Most places will have a zip code locator, but in this case they only have a few vendors so they just list all of the stores who carry the product:

All I did was search 'Switzers black licorice' and the first link took me to their homepage and then clicked on 'Buy our Candies' - and there is a list of every vendor who carries their products.

I love this forum- truly, deeply, unreservedly, but I'd trade it away in a hearbeat for a world uncorrupted by the distraction machines called smart phones. To walk out in public and not hear people having conversations with phantoms or shuffling around like zombies staring at their hands; to sit in a restaurant and see others looking at each other; to not have complete idiots provided a direct pathway to the world in order to spew their nonsense; to live in a world where people must seek out information and not be so jaded and spoiled that they ignore the aggregated knowledge of humanity available to them at the tap of a screen or click of a mouse.

For that, I'd give up so much.

I had an appointment with the doc yesterday. There is a small store right next door that sells homemade cookies, candy, etc.

The blackboard advertised bacon candy, so I popped in. A small box of maple-bacon candy, maybe large enough to hold two decks of cards: Eek TEN DOLLARS! Eek

I thanked the lady and said at that price I would hold off until I had a really special occasion to buy some.

I remember ordering things and forgetting that I’d ordered them by the time they were delivered.

There are absolutely downsides to the rise of online shopping, and amazon in particular, but the progress is nothing short of incredible. I often make multiple purchases a week online both of personal and work-related products. The array of quality, affordable products that I can have delivered to my door, usually in two days, simply by moving my wrist and fingers, is staggering. More and better products at lower costs, with no time at all wasted.

I'm not sure kids today cculd even conceive of it.
Get pen, paper and a stamp. Write an actual letter requesting a catalog and price list. Mail same.

Many weeks later, receive catalog. Maybe. Spend hours perusing items available and counting your allowance.

Fill out order form and mail with another letter to place your order. Expect six to eight weeks for delivery. No tracking or order status will be available, it gets here when it gets here.

In next week's lesson, we'll review the library card catalog.

Yes, anticipation was a great thing when I was a kid, and I do agree with Mr. Spock.

Looking forward to it. Can we please have a lesson on how to use a Telephone Book, and how to send a telegram to Chicago?
