I will fear no evil..

I’m looking at coming down with the family July 4th week for vacation. What can you tell me about the Ocean Crest Resort and surrounding area? I’m now reading that there are different parts of Ocean Blvd to avoid. This will be a last minute change,we canceled our FL plans due to the current situation and the fact the pools are closed in the Condo we were staying at. Thanks looking forward to hearing any advice suggestions.

Member Aglifter would be able to answer that for you.

We were going to do Myrtle Beach, but once we found out how busy it was because North Carolina beaches closed public parking, we decided to go west instead.

They "closed" myrtle again yesterday. It's a local thing so no clue if restaurants and such will bother to listen, but you'll probably have beach access issues.

I'm headed to tybee instead next week. Even if the fear ramps up I can still legally get a to-go from wet willies and enjoy the sea breeze. Smile

My mom just went to North Myrtle and it was fine. The main strip is crazy.

You’d have to knock me out and then drag me to Myrtle Beach on a holiday weekend.

We're heading to Garden City (south of Myrtle Beach "proper") next week.

njauto...where exactly is Ocean Crest Resort? I can't find it using Google.

And SirBeep...where did you see that they "closed" Myrtle Beach? I can't find anything on the City of MB, Horry County, or Georgetown County websites. The area of Garden City where we will be is in Georgetown County...I sure don't want to get over there and be surprised that any beaches are closed. I have seen where quite a few restaurants are closed.

njauto...a lot of where you're staying and what to do may depend on the age of your kids. In today's climate, I'd almost be hesitant to stay in, or go to, Myrtle Beach "proper" (where Ripley's Believe It or Not, Pavilion Park, etc are located). We much prefer North Myrtle Beach, or the opposite direction...Garden City, Surfside, Pawley's Island, etc. There is still plenty to do in those areas, but it just seems a little less congested and "crazy" as compared to the heart of Myrtle Beach. If I go to that area any more, I'm in and out before 8:00ish. Maybe I'm just getting old?

It’s at 803 S. Ocean Blvd.

I called this morning and they said beaches and everything else are open.

That's good news about the beaches being open!
You should be fine...that resort is 1-2 miles south of the Ripley's area I'm talking about. It's close enough to enjoy, but not smack dab in the middle of it.
If you and your family enjoy the shops, etc, there's Barefoot Landing and Broadway at the Beach north of you. Use the Hwy 17 Business, or the Robert M Grissom Pkwy to get around...traffic can be an absolute nightmare on Ocean Blvd...lots of "cruising"

Also, check with the locals when you get settled in...most years, they do a fly-over down the coast line headed from north to south for the 4th. Unfortunately, we're headed home on the 4th and will miss it, if they do it this year.

The State is a new hot bed of cases and most importantly the condo where we were staying closed the pools. That’s not an option in FL with kids. Plus there’s talk they will close beach access as well. Just wasn’t worth the risk of traveling all the way down there and then being stuck inside. This was Boca Raton.

A family member traveling from Atlanta back to Orlando said they were stopping people at the Florida border inquiring about residency on the 6th of June. They live in Florida, and were not harassed, but I never heard if they were requiring a quarantine period or anything. There are a few communities that are still doing that in May, but not a whole State that I knew of.

This City had a 14 day quarantine in effect for over two months: https://www.wataugademocrat.co...9a-f642a998555c.html

Nice from about 25th ave N to about 62nd as well. Really pretty nice along the beach north of 25th or so. North of 15th isn’t bad until late

Is your place still open on Seaboard? I tried looking it up when I was down at Coastal, and it did not come up google maps?

Give us a call. The plant is still operational. The front is now a meeting area/demo store. (There are enough small kids running around that our old meeting room is now full of toys and a bouncy house - and it’s by the offices so it’s easy to keep an eye on the kids.)

The retail was interfering too much with the manufacturing.

North Myrtle or Cherry Grove is my favorite area if I'm going there. But the Covid cases are on the up and up all over in this state if that's a concern.

Ended up canceling the other place and went up to North Ocean Blvd. Staying at the Beach Colony Resort located at 5308 N. Ocean. This looks to be well rated and in the area suggested before.

I live 15 minutes from Boca Raton, beaches are open, restaurants are open, and everything in between.
