When I was in music class, back in Boston, my teacher played this every Nov. 10. At the time I didn't know what it meant. As I got older I understood.

I was at K.I. Sawyer when it happened. It hit the Yoopers hard. And ironically, we had a November gale today. About 6 inches of snow at my place, much more to the west and east.

The freighters pass by where I live. They are massive but look kindof fragile in videos where the big waves kick up.

I've relayed this story before, but I was an engineering cadet on the SS Middletown during the summer of 1979. The Middletown was the sister ship the Fitz, both sailing for Columbia Steamship Company. Many of the crew I sailed with had had friends on the Fitz when she went down four years before.
Whenever I hear that song, it hits home!

I remember listening to the radio reports that November. Every time I go to the Great Lakes I think of that fateful night, and it still raises the hair on my arms.

My Grandfather was Chief Steward on the boats, he knew a couple of the guys that went down.
