cne32507Yes. I used to make my own, but now I use canned Glory Seasoned Southern Style. Glory SSS collard greens and my cornbread. Diced green onions and clear Texas Pete. For the pork, I'm fixin' Grilled Pork Tenderloin, ala Alton Brown. It's real good, try it sometime.

robbiedogI grew up in Dallas and have had black-eyed peas on New Years for decades, no matter where I live. I cook them with onion, bacon and garlic, salt and pepper. Great with cornbread too.....
BUT
Do you know where the tradition came from? It's quite interesting and doesn't make me regret this tradition at all, because as a Texan I can respect other Texan's shenanigans........and by the way, my brother is LBJ, and our mom was friends with Torn, Jr........went to UT together and our mom's bf at the time was his frat brother. Anyway, here's the link....http://www.texasescapes.com/CFEckhardt/The-Great-Blackeyed-Pea-Hoax.htm?fbclid=IwAR3E3-HgrtHPx9iBevbS7xg3wBB2BBPdm4fUmmXAJyk42uc3mG3QzObHBOI
Like an idiot I've forgotten how to do a hyperlink on this board.......crud...... but it's easy enough to select that link and go to it.....It's a good story anyway....

thundersonWe had 'em and do so every year. We also put out bread and silver for the "Brownies". No we're not superstitious. It's just that traditions are important.

murphmanI successfully evaded that fate, as I have since reaching the age where I had a choice in such matters.
