I have three Viofo A119 cameras in my cars. Each are hardwired into the fuse box, and I have never had a problem with them (one seems to have trouble keeping the time stamp right it always goes 1.5 hours fast). One thing to remember with any dash cam is to use a good quality "high endurance" card, that will withstand multiple rewrites. The cards will eventually deteriorate until the image is useless.

I have several Blackvue's in my fleet. Other than one overheating in the severe heat I have had no troubles with them and they have paid for themselves in a few fender benders.

I have an old Garmin Dashcam 20 and love it. It does all I want and see no reason to upgrade unless it dies. The only problem I have which I would have with any suction cup mount is during the hot summer here in Texas it will fall from the windshield when my truck is parked during the day and I keep having to re-mount it.

My wife and I each have a Garmin DriveAssist 50, which is a combination dash camera and GPS. The GPS screen can do triple duty:
  1. GPS, of course,

  2. View anything that has been recorded by the camera, and

  3. It can display the video image from a Garmin BC-30 backup camera.
I do not like the suction cup windshield mount, so I use a beanbag type mount stand that just sits on top of the dash. It works just fine, very stable.

I have a Garmin 20 in my truck(my cars have the Viofo's). I had the same problem with the suction cup mount. Here's what I did:
I got one of these:

Then got some thin rubber strips(from an old innertube), and added them in the clamp area, then clamped the mount to the shaft between the windshield & mirror. Sort of a tight fit, but works for me, and the camera is easily detached from the mount.

I’ve used/use cameras made by Thinkware. Pretty slick units, but they’re expensive. The software to play back the video on your computer is a bit confusing.

I have one of the same model mounted under the rear view mirror and facing forward, and it provides a nice view at 1080p. I use a SanDisk 64GB micro card (the largest size it will take), which provides about 7 hours of video before rewriting. Is there a better brand for withstanding multiple rewrites?

I use a Garmin GPS (can't give you the model number right now) that has a dash camera built in...the one I have also has the ability to link wirelessly to their optional back up camera that you can mount and tie into the back up lights.

the dash camera will automatically store an 'event' by recording the previous 90 seconds and following 90 seconds.. Also, it keeps everything for about a day and then loops it recording over that.

Most likely the DriveAssist 50, which is now manufacture discontinued, or its replacement, the DriveAssist 51.

My wife and I each have a DriveAssist 50. Mine saved me a log of grief when a woman drove her Mercedes through a red light and slammed into my truck. She lied to the responding cop; I showed him the video and that answered all of his questions and refuted her lies.

This is what I ended up with after a bit of research. Pretty good imaging, especially in the dark. My favorite thing about it is that I can make a wifi connection with it and download the video clips to my Iphone, convert them, and text, e-mail, or post them to facebook.

I recently installed a Blackvue D590W 2CH. So far I'm very satisfied with it, but now wish I'd have paid the extra for the DR750S-2CH which is the next level up and offers cloud access and 60 FPS recording both front and rear.

Image quality is very good and the parking feature works very well and has a battery drain protection feature so that you don't find yourself with a dead battery when parked for extended periods. The actual footprint of the unit is small and it's easy to find a mounting place. You can find less expensive units, but if you compare all of the features and image quality, you are pretty much getting what you paid for.

Transcend High Endurance or ultimate 633x are specifically designed for dashcam and surveillance camera applications. Pricey, but they stand up pretty well to the constant rewriting you get on most dashcams.

Thanks. I added the first one you linked to my Amazon wish list. Cannot afford it this month.

I plan to get another this week, and had intended to go with Garmin but can't find one that is windshield mount. I had a Rexing but it and its brother both died. No more of that.

Any recommendation for a windshield mount one? I need to mount up high on passenger side, already have a 5v micro-usb cable run I hope to repurpose!

I'm pretty sure there's a longer thread, but karmanator search can't find it.....

I do not need navi, or a large screen, just a camera that works reliably with decent image.

Any feedback on the Street Guardian welcome. Looking for something smallish and don't need rear camera or the navi really.

I have a Rexxing as well in my car. So far so good. I put the $20 Blackweb ones from wally world in the wife and sons cars, they work fine as well. Quite a bit smaller than the Rexxing. If my Rexxing goes tits up I will get another Blackweb for myself.

They come with an 8gb card, windshield mount and they run on micro usb

Suscribed. In Mar's thread in the Whats Your Deal about Progressive Ins, I liked the idea of the dash cam and pretty much sold me. I've been spending hours on searches and You Tube videos looking at many of them and features I'd like to have.

NavyGuy, I watched this video about the Blackvue DR750S-2CH and the one thing that kinda made me think is at the 20:28 mark (if you want to skip ahead) he discusses a situation with the Blackvue when it auto tries to connect to wifi, on your phone if your connecting to wifi to use the dash cam features, because of the cams connection, it may prevent your phone use to connect with other wifi apps. If your interested, here's the link:

DR750S-2CH

Looks like a very good dash cam otherwise. I'm still looking and will look at some of the recommendations here..

I've gone though quite a few Blackvue's on my personal vehicle and some company trucks I use them on. I have only used Blackvue. The first one I got would overheat regularly in the summer but that was probably ten years ago. The last few I have purchased have worked flawlessly with the exception of occasionally wearing out memory cards. I currently use a DR950S-2CH and i love it.

I've been browsing more recommendations since my last post above. Another odd question I have that I cannot seem to find a decent answer to is, if somebody breaks into your car and the theft includes your dash cam, I know that it activates motion such as a bump or possible break-in but, if it records the theft, does it upload the video to a cloud feature so you can see the perp and the break-in? I know the GPS features may be able to locate from what I've read and some perp's may not be able to use them because of a code or something. Reason I ask is several years back, somebody did break into my car and steal my Valentine One when I had it parked in the driveway, can you in fact retrieve a video of the theft from a cloud storage or other means?

Nowadays I always park in the garage and it's most always locked but, what if it's ripped off in a public parking lot like for example a park or something? I also understand that some have the capability to send an alert to you phone I guess much like RING doorbell feature but you may not be able to get to your vehicle in time to stop the theft. Yes, I do have insurance coverage for theft but I hate vehicle break-ins and/or theft.

Regards, Will G.
