My mother used to make stuffed cabbage when we were kids. She used the pressure cooker. Rice and meat were always well cooked. I miss that meal.

Yep, that's how I remember them. About once a month. My mom was Polish, my dad German, but he loved them too. Kinda stinked up the house but after and hour or so you didn't notice.

Growing up we also referred to them as "Pigs In A Blanket".

The official name is Golabki. My and now my sister make them. Better the next day.

I think it’s a location thing, I know here in PA I’ve known them as pigs in a blanket.

My most favorite dish for polish food. Not only that, but I love cabbage. My wife makes some of the best Halushki I’ve ever had!

I like just eating raw cabbage leaves while she’s cooking.[/QUOTE]

Stuffed Cabbage, Stuffed Peppers and Perogies. My mother and her aunt would make them. My wife cannot stand Cabbage or Green Peppers so I never try to make them.

Off topic, my mother’s aunt, actually a half aunt, (so would she be my half great aunt?) I remember especially the years after my father passed we would go to her home in Dearborn Heights where would spend the afternoon, the two of them preparing and cooking those above mentioned foods together with macaroni and cheese, the cheese baked instead of creamy like the boxed stuff and occasionally pepper steak, all on a early 50’s Tappan Gas Range.

It’s been over a half century, thanks for stirring memories of a simpler time for me.
