People think that those of us in Kentucky can get the good bottles easily. You usually have to either know somebody or just luck into something. I buy a LOT from my local liquor store, so the owner offers me good bottles once and a while.. My son is active duty Navy, and he occasionally finds things at the package store. Other than that, I'm generally S.O.L.

I've pretty much given up chasing the unicorns. I can usually find BT easily, so that's my usual pour. The better stuff I tend to ration or save for special occasions.

Thank you for the offer, I may take you up on that. Giant Liquors in Pisgah/West Chester had so much Antique last week, I am not sure they were even limiting sales. Sharonville has a limit of two Antique, but generally have it even a day after delivery, their delivery day is Tuesdays.

Here, Eagle Rare, E H Taylor and Blanton's are much more difficult to find than Special Reserve and Antique.

There was word of a few cases of Elmer T in the area last week, I spoke with someone who said they saw it in Deer Park. They were too deep in the line to snag a bottle.

The day we were at BT, Blanton's was available behind the register. You had to ask for it. A little known fact is that all of the distilleries sell to a distributor and have to buy their product back to sell in their gift shops.

Thanks, I was happy to buy the Four Roses. I am sorry I did not buy the bottle they only sell in their gift shop. There was a guy there explaining the numbers on the label regarding the location in the rack and what they meant. I do plan to go back and buy one of the "only available in their shop bourbons". I think it was either $50.00 or $60.00

That is good to know, I was unaware of the availability in the BT Gift Shop.

I did not buy any Wheatly Vodka, but there appeared to be no shortage of it.

It's amazing how the distribution of this stuff works. In Minnesota I can literally buy B.Trace by the case...and at about $25/bottle at HyVee.

Weller Special Reserve was $22.99 + tax
Weller Antique 107 was $49.99 + Tax
Buffalo trace was $25.49 + tax

I'm down to the last of my Elmer T. need to secure more. Buffalo Trace is hit or miss for me. If I can find the big bottle, I buy it. I consider it my Go To, pour a glass whiskey. It makes a great Manhattan as well. I prefer Four Roses Single Barrel over Eagle Rare.

Gotta do the Bourbon Trail one of these days. My wife loves the stuff as much as I do.

I used to get Weller Antique for less than $30 a bottle. I haven’t found any in Cincinnati for a few years now. I guess I need to go out and look again. It was my favorite bourbon. Especially when Cork and Bottle had it in their own single barrel offerings years back.

Some considerations here. First, its hard to find good whiskey/bourbon north of the Mason-Dixon line. That translates into not bothering shopping in Ohio. Cross the bridge (or one of them). Get thee to Kentucky, where booze is made and sometimes in supply. I75 has a good liquor store right off the bridge. It was mentioned as Cork and Bottle, or we call it Corkie bottle. Maybe worth the stop. You can buy really good booze there. Back just after 2000 a buddie called me from Florida. They'd stopped on their way south to buy a bottle. The dentist among them wanted to show off and asked for the best bourbon they had. The guy managing was a son of the owner and steered them to A H Hirsch. Google it some time. They got down to speed week and called me. That bottle didn't last the first night (fool yankees). Between them buying it and calling me, it had jumped up from $54.95 to $59.95. They wanted another bottle and asked me to pick one up. So I asked the manager if I could buy one at the "old" price. He laughed and said I could buy as many as I wanted...in case lots.

OK, I smelled a deal, so I bought a case. Yeah, a bunch of money. Its just money, who cares. Google that brand some time. Its up to $2700 a bottle and sometimes $3500. I've still got 3 untouched bottles. Ya just gotta be on top of these things. Take advice from folks you trust.

Just for the record, I haven't quit drinking. I just stopped. I now have enough to last me the rest of my life at this rate. And I have a bottle of 1997 Pappy 20 year. If you read and trust other alcoholics () You'll find other brands at the big stores. Trust me, its fun to hike the big stores. Take along cash. I think the Hue family runs the little counter in the middle of cork'n bottle. The best not outrageous brand is Jefferson Reserve, 20 year. Its sweet and you'll love it. Disclaimers: Hirsch isn't Kentucky Bourbon, its from PA. Still one of the best ever to come out of a still. If that means anything to you.

Over in Bellevue they've got a big store too. In their bourbon isle they've got some of the good stuff locked up behind glass. Worth a walk around, just for fun. Or google it. For the life of me, I can't figure out why Y'all live in places were good booze is hard to find. Even the small stores here hold treasures.

My advice: take a vacation and head down thru God's country. I hear tell Louisville even has a big store or two. For entertainment they furnish riots on demand. Fools.

Both Buffalo Trace & four roses are quite fine choices. BT has dried up in my area and I can always find Woodford so that’s become my mainstay. Also have some four roses on my shelf..

The one she got and loves is single barrel private selection. The one's with the date on em. We found more of em later in MD at the liquor store. Kinda fun to track down dates and know different batches.

So you bought an empty barrel for $100? What do you do with it other than cut it up for your bbq smoker?

My friend at work had his 50th birthday trip planned to do a huge bourbon trail trip. Very little is open, though. The BT tour and the gift shop at 4R but Heaven Hill, Makers, Woodford, etc. are all still closed. He's pretty bummed.

As far as what is available locally, BT and Weller green label are pretty much always available. Eagle Rare used to be and is now hard to find. Blanton's is around every 6 months maybe, if you go on the right day. I haven't seen a bottle of ETL in years.

Our current plan is to try to get to Buffalo Trace and a few other distilleries next March.


Anything in the Antique collection is like a unicorn around here. I see EH Taylor and Eagle Rare occasionally, but that's pretty sporadic.

Buffalo Trace family of brands are a very excellent group and some fine tasting whiskeys.

No shortage out here, occasionally I've seen Blanton's run dry but, whomever has distribution rights, must have a very large warehouse.

I'm also a big fan of Buffalo Trace and Four Roses products. Have to be on your toes to find the good ones in stock around here but I've managed to get some. I would definitely like to take the distillery tours someday.

EH Taylor Small Batch and BT were the only tow Bourbons on the shelves. Plenty of Wheatly Vodka, but no one was buying that.

There was a limit of one EH Taylor, so my wife and I each got a bottle.

My friends who went 2 and 3 months ago, lucked into Blantons and EH Taylor both on the shelves they days they went.

They did record their Drivers License, and told them there is a limit of one bottle of Blantons, every three months.

They did have someone in the parking lot telling people before they went through the screening barn, that there was no Blantons that day. A couple of people did turn around and left.
