I won a lottery for a special bottle of Four Roses and today was my day to pick it up. We drove to Four Roses first. My wife just does not get it. She kind of did, after we met two different people from Texas who were there to pick up their bottles. The first guy drove 13 hours yesterday, went to Four Roses and Buffalo Trace today, before driving 13 hours home this afternoon. The other couple was driving from Texas to South Carolina, with a stop at four Roses and Buffalo Trace. Not exactly on the way.

Anyway, we did not take the tours, just visited the gift shops. Quite the line at Buffalo Trace at 9:45 this morning. Buffalo Trace is really cool, in a turn of the century, industrial type setting. Four Roses reminded me of more of a boutique type setting, maybe something from Europe.

The only product available at Buffalo Trace today was their vodka, E H Taylor Small Batch and Buffalo Trace.

I hope to return in the next couple of weeks, for maybe some Blantons, Eagle Rare or Elmer T.

I do want to take the tour of each Distillery at some point. It is only a two hour drive each way.

Wow! Fantastic opportunity, B.T. Makes some of my favorite bourbons.

Buffalo Trace is my favorite tour when I go down. Their Eagle Rare is my top choice bourbon and their bourbon crepe is outstanding also for a snort in an after dinner coffee

Had a blast on those tours. Buffalo Trace is phenominal. We bought a barrel and drove home with that too.

We got a Special something four roses that was bottled my wife's B-day. Four roses is her favorite. Probably mine too.

I would like to do the Buffalo Trace tour.It would be good to pick up some of their fine bourbon.
I did the Makers Mark tour last year with my oldest son,and we bought our full allotment. It is about a 5 hour drive for me, but definitely worth it!

You won't be disappointed, it's a great bourbon, one of our favorites. NC has state owned stores, I had to wait 4 months to get 2 bottles. Since then we have been lucky and hit the 'lottery' a few more times. It's seldom on the display shelf, you have to ask the cashier, it's normally under the counter.

The barrel was empty mind you, but there was a little bit of "devils cut" I think they call it in the wood. We never got it out.

100 bucks. They loaded it up.

The one she got and loves is single barrel private selection. The one's with the date on em. We found more of em later in MD at the liquor store. Kinda fun to track down dates and know different batches.

We here in the Central Bluegrass region of the Commonwealth are well blessed to have so many fine distilleries around that we can visit, and sample their wears. Smile

I turned my buds onto Eagle Rare bourbon and they agree that it’s as good a whiskey as can be found in these parts.

Congratulations on your major award my friend.

I've never heard of ETL at the giftshop. You might get lucky and get Blanton's or Eagle Rare.

If memory serves, you are in Ohio in the Cincy area. You guys have been getting a ton of Weller products, including the Antique 107. I've seen a lot of postings on Facebook showing cases of 107 at Ohio stores. I was able to get some Weller SR at Hyde Park Kroger a few months back.

Glad to read this. I really enjoy Buffalo Trace and Four Roses. Especially Four Roses Special Batch. Talk about smooth. Glad you won that special bottle. Two hours or more drive? Yep, worth it to me.

The joke here is, there is more Weller Special Reserve and Antique than Truly.

My son lives in Charlotte and does not see Weller there very often, if ever. He has asked me to buy what I can. Weller is allocated, so I can usually only buy a bottle or two. However, I have 6 liquor stores I hit every week, on their respective delivery days. In the past 8 weeks, there is way more Weller than BT here in Cincy. One store had 8 cases of antique last week.

You can also follow the Ohio Liquor Control website, to see who has what and when. it is often update in the wee morning hours.

For the money, I really like the Weller Special Reserve and Antique 107. They are two of my favorites for sure.

Four Roses has come a long way. Thirty/forty years ago, I do not recall Four Roses as a particularly sought after Bourbon. About 8 years ago, I attended an event where Four Roses had a booth. Even though I had not had Four Roses in decades, I was blown away.

The bottle of Four Roses I won the right to purchase, was the 2020 Small Batch Limited Edition.

https://fourrosesbourbon.com/b...2020-le-small-batch/

Like I said, in the 30 minutes we were at Four Roses, we met two people that drove from Texas, to claim their bottle.

Well, if you find yourself in a bind trying to get Eagle Rare or Blanton's I have a few of each and would gladly work a trade for some Antique.

People think that those of us in Kentucky can get the good bottles easily. You usually have to either know somebody or just luck into something. I buy a LOT from my local liquor store, so the owner offers me good bottles once and a while.. My son is active duty Navy, and he occasionally finds things at the package store. Other than that, I'm generally S.O.L.

I've pretty much given up chasing the unicorns. I can usually find BT easily, so that's my usual pour. The better stuff I tend to ration or save for special occasions.
