DDG has decided to join Big Tech in being an arbiter of what you see when you search for something. They are now filtering results, just like Google.

CEO/co-founder of DDG:

If you are using Brave Browser you can go into the settings for your search engine and choose StartPage in place of DuckDuckGo.

Just changed it… will go with Startpage for now.

I was never a huge fan of DuckDuckGo searching anyways. It never quite seemed as good as other options.

Wow, if you click to the specific DDG announcement thread, they are really getting hammered by users...and rightfully so.

I'll probably wait a few days before trying to decide which search engine to switch to, on the chance they may correct the rectal-crannial virtue-signalling glitch they are experiencing, but thanks for the heads up on this issue Bamajeepster.

It's certainly possible that Start Page will turn, but I've been using them, on and off, for close to ten years now, and I'm not aware of any big announcements in which they started ranking or hiding search results.

The problem that I've been increasingly running into while using Start Page is that

1) Many companies/ websites are starting to block searches from them.

and

2) You can't use the Start Page search while using a VPN.

As a result, in recent months I found myself either having to turn off my VPN while conducting a search, then turning it back on after I find what I'm looking for (often forgetting to toggle it back on), or just using DDG.

"For feedback regarding DuckDuckGo Search, use the 'Send feedback' link in the side of the results pages."

OK, find that, if you can.

Thanks for the heads up on DDG. I switched to it a while back because of similar issues with Google and Bing. Never did really care for the interface or the results.

We'll try Start Page for a while.

Here:

https://search.brave.com/

Currently in beta testing. I just tried it. I turned off Safe Search, filtered search results for the past day and searched in 'duckduckgo ceo is a fool'

https://search.brave.com/searc...ool&source=web&tf=pd

Down the Twitter page where this virtue-signalling half-wit made his announcement is one of the key questions:

"My serious question is, why did you announce this? You had to know the responses you’d get. Or did you think you’d get a positive response for jumping on the Ukrainian bandwagon?"

Yep, that's why he tweeted this out. "Look at meeeeeeeeeeeee!!!" Look how virtuous I am!!!!!"

Weinberg arrogantly lectured users who voiced opposition to his new censorship scheme.

The whole point of DuckDuckGo is privacy. The whole point of the search engine is to show more relevant content over less relevant content, and that is what we continue to do.

— Gabriel Weinberg (@yegg) March 10, 2022

Search engines by definition try to put more relevant content higher and less relevant content lower — that’s not censorship, it’s search ranking relevancy.

— Gabriel Weinberg (@yegg) March 10, 2022

What exactly is “as is”? Search results aren’t a completely random list of web sites. They are created based on a complex set of algorithms weighing 100s of factors.

I guess I'll try the Brave search engine.

DDG was becoming annoying, on my mobile devices, anyway, with constantly pestering me to install the DDG app.

Stupid move on DDG's part, IMO.

Guess I'm getting rid of DDG. Startpage it is. DDG was getting annoying, as others have said.

For Firefox users who want to use the Brave search engine, go here:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-...l&utm_content=search

Install the add-on. Then, in the upper right hand corner of your Firefox browser. click the three horizontal lines, then on the left hand side of the page that opens up, click on "Search". Under "Default Search Engine" click the drop-down and you should have Brave Search as a choice. Works like a charm.

Or, you can follow these instructions for Firefox and for Chrome: https://search.brave.com/default

As for DuckDuckGo, I say DuckDuck go. Farewell, ya virtue-signalling jerks.

I have mentioned Start Page multiple times on this forum. They pledge to never turn your data over to any government.
