That Ford in my last post was my family's first with power steering - a full four turns lock-to-lock. But no power brakes. And drums all around. I don't remember having any trouble stopping it, though. | |||

So many choices!! But as a sixth grader, and to this day if I had the money my pick would be: 1971 AMC Javelin AMX. The school library had extra copies of magazines, to include the long defunct Sports Car Graphic. They gave me a copy of it with their review of the AMX. Love at first sight, even more so than I'd had with Daytonas and Superbirds. | |||

As nice as those old cars were for their time they were pretty sad to drive and maintain compared to what we have now. No car is as much fun to drive, as any motorcycle is to ride. | |||

I learned to drive on a 57 Chevy. I was 11 years old and had to set on a box to see over the giant steering wheel. My first car was a 67 Chevelle. I still miss that car. I always felt that by 1973 the muscle car era was over. Between impact bumpers and the drop in engine compression ratios, smog equipment, add in the CRAP metal that was used that guaranteed the whole car would rust away and horrible styling choices the industry was dead at least till the very late 80's. | |||

armored, Yes, the lousy steel that GM used in 73-74 for body stamping, how well I remember that. My 73 Chevy rusted through at the outside mirror reinforcement on the door skin, car was two years old. By 1977 they got better but then from 75-78 small block Chevrolets had a propensity for flattening camshaft lobes, mine went at two years from the purchase date and 36k miles. Chevy tried to blame everything and anything but themselves for the problem. I was working in a Chevy dealership parts department at the time and the factory rep tried to tell me it was because I was not taking care of my El Camino. Sure, I bought over the counter and installed factory tilt steering column, cruise control, a tonneau cover and a set of 78-79 Corvette aluminum wheels for it just to not change the oil! Made perfect sense to me. First of all, cars that I owned: two ‘65 Chevelle SS, and a ‘67 Camaro. All great cars. This list of cars I would like to own from that era is long: Of the tri-5s, a ‘55, ‘61 Chevy, doesn’t have to be an Impala, I love ‘63 Ford Galaxies, C1 and C2 Corvettes, ‘67 and ‘68 Mustang fastbacks, ‘66 and ‘67 Chevelles… ‘69 Camaro, especially Z-28 There are some Mopars I’d like to own as well, mid-60s Belvederes ‘66 and ‘67 GTO _______________________________________________________ despite them | |||
