It was on this date in 1964 that Ford introduced the Mustang. It was designed for and marketed initially to single working women. Needless to say, it appealed to a lot of people.
A year or so later I remember riding in a 289 High Performance. It was quite a ride. I have never had one, but if I had a bigger garage or a storage shed, I would have one from the 60's bought by sundown tomorrow.

I never had a mustang, but I did have a 65 Ford Falcon with a 289 High Performance and a 4 speed.
It was substantially lighter than the mustang and faster.

One of my HS buddies had a yellow Falcon convertible with the 289HP and a 4 speed. You are correct, it would run.

My first car was a 68 Falcon, lime green with a black roof. 200ci straight six that could barely get out of it's own way.
But it took me through my last year of high school and four years of college.

In my early 20’s I had a 69 Mustang with a lightly breathed on 289 swap for a seized 302. I have fond memories of that car.

My first car was a '66 Mustang back in '73. It wouldn't run when I bought it for $90. Got it home and found it only need the timing changed. This message has been edited. Last edited by: wreckdiver, April 29, 2022 07:37 AM

I'm excited to daily drive my BOSS 302. So much fun. Thanks Ford for not killing the line!

Happy Birthday Mustang. My first car was a 68 Mustang coupe. Three years ago I finished a full restoration on a 66 Convertible for my mother and step-father. They will always have a warm place in my heart.

Happy birthday Mustang. Thanks for the amazing memories. My 1967 was my fav but this one made some incredible memories.
Life comes at you fast. I still have the 5.0 drop top. Hopefully one of my chirruns will show and interest in cars and we will one day restore it to its former glory.

I’ve always loved the Mustang. I had a 2001 GT for a few years before the kids were born and it was a fun car.
One day I’d like to own a Fox body 5.0. My neighbor had one and that car was awesome.

learned to drive in a 67, then bought a 68 which I sunk every penny into. I currently have a bone stock 08 Bullitt which just turned 19K. Glad to see them still being made!

It pisses me off that they are calling this a mustang.

^ That pi$$ed me off from the first commercial I saw for it. Besmirched the Mustang name. Ford should be ashamed!

I bought my wife a used '69 Mustang. Had it painted white with a satin black hood(Mach 1 style). It had a 289 auto with power and air. She loved it and it served us well.

owned a ‘67 GTA. God but I thought I was the shit in that thing. Later owned a ‘70 w/I-6 it was a better car having not been thrashed. Lastly a ‘96 convertible that was a daughter’s mobile. The girls loved that thing. Reminded me of the ‘67 in how unrefined a mustang was, simple cheap transportation wrapped in image and stripper glitter.

The only Mustang I ever owned was an 85 LX 5.0 5 speed convertible. At that time it was the highest horse power 5.0 that they had built. Last year for a carburetor and first year of the roller cam. It needed a drag chute. It would really go but wouldn't stop for squat.

My first new car was a 1960 Falcon. In 1966 I sold it to my mom and bought a new Mustang with a 289. I drove that car for 5 years and took it with me to Iran. I sold it to a GI there in 1971 and came back to the States. I was so upset with what Ford had done to the Mustang (made it bigger and heavier) that I bought a Pinto as a protest. I drove that for 9 years and took it to Germany for my last USAF assignment. Sold it there to a GI and came back home. Bought a 1980 Capri, which was a nice little car. In 1986 I wanted a new car and got a 1986 Mustang GT, which I drove for 20 years. During that time I found a guy up in Denison, TX who rebuilt old Mustangs and I got a redone 1966 Mustang from him. It had a 289 and dual exhausts, and I still have that one. I sold the 1986 in 2006 and bought my current Daily Driver, a 2006 Mustang 68. I have owned 4 Mustangs over the years and loved every one of them. Here's my rebuilt 1966: 000_0073.jpg by David Casteel, on Flickr 000_0077.jpg by David Casteel, on Flickr
