I live in a two story house. I have two A/C units, one for first floor and one for the second floor. The problem is the second floor. Imagine a thermostat with the usual readings: Time, actual temperature and the temperature you set the thermostat to be in. The thermostat is on and the setting is on cool. Set to 78 degrees. The problem is the outside unit is not working. I already checked the electric circuit box, everything seems to be in working order. the thermostat is not displaying set temperature and the clock is just blinking with the correct time. It normally blinks with the time and the temperature set so. Today is just the time blinking on and off. Any suggestions?

Not sure your location or how much humidity you have but mine acted like that when the condensation drain was plugged up and the back flow sensor was tripped and shut my unit down. What I did was blow the blockage out put bleach water down the drain and restarted the unit.

This is my initial thought too. However, I recommend using vinegar instead of bleach as bleach can harm your line over time. You should pour vinegar down your line at least every 6 months as preventative maintenance.

Want to feel better/smarter?

At least you didn't pay for a service call to find out you had dead batteries. Wink
