EDIT: passed the senate by vote of 27-22 Saturday 04/08/23. Governor expected to sign it today for emergency immediate effect Roll Eyes Added first video below with more details.

I already posted this in the gun control sub forum but thought I would post here also in case some of our Washington State members are not aware yet. Again this law HB1240 would go into effect immediately after the governor signs it and gun stores could not sell what they already have.

https://sigforum.com/eve/forum...0601935/m/2120012994

Washington State is trying to pull an "Illinois" and get an AWB passed and into law very quickly. This is a very insidious piece of legislation and goes much farther than just banning semi automatic firearms but also attachments and parts. Anyhow William Kirk explains it a lot better than I do so see below. He also advises that any firearm that is banned would not be able to be taken possession of after the ban goes into effect even if one has purchased already and waiting to pickup after the mandatory waiting period. He suggests that "lowers" can be taken possession of right after the background check clears as they are not a complete firearm.

Yup, we are screwed unless and until it's overturned in a few years which may be unlikely depending on your POV.

I understand your frustration but I think there is a good chance to be overturned and an injunction until cases are heard though the injunction might take a little while. Here in Illinois several lawsuits have been filed and will he heard soon with oral arguments starting next month. Gun control cases are moving much faster post Bruen. Remember Bruen vacated and remanded several Second Amendment cases back to lower courts to be tried again under Bruen scrutiny of text/tradition/history.

There are also a couple big cases including AWB and magazine ban that we should hear about any day now from Judge Benitez in California.

it seems like more than a few states are rushing to get their bans into law before Judge Benitez reveals his decisions and written opinions.

An AWB soon going into law in Washington state.

I'll bet the gangbangers and other outlaw critters in the high crime areas are really worried.

/sarcasm.

Yup, you got it.

As of a year ago, felons can vote in Washington.

Felons prefer unarmed victims, and therefore support gun restrictions.

It's not rocket surgery to see the problem here.

The bill defines assault weapon so broadly that nearly everything falls into the scope of the prohibitions. So much stupid, I weep for my state. All under the guise of a public health emergency.

Yeah, from what I can gather from the 2nd video above, a Glock G17 with a threaded barrel is considered an assault weapon in WA if the law passes.

Washington State is a one party ruled state. In Washington we suffer from a Democrat Governor, Legislature and Attorney General. Democrat controlled King, Pierce and Snohomish counties pretty much dictate how the rest of the state is run. I think even Spokane county is becoming more purple but I could be wrong.

Yep and so is this "weapon of war". Threaded barrel too though not obvious right away as.

I just wanna remind everybody that ten years ago we were going the other way. SBRs and suppressors were legalized here, and that upset the billionaires and wine mommies, so now here we are.

Credit card has been getting a workout, like with the magazine ban. I'd really like to find a C7 upper before all this nonsense goes down so I can build my New Vegas Service Rifle facsimile.

Is anyone filing for the temporary injunction as soon as it passes?

IIRC Washington is part of the 9th Circuit. California's AWB is about to get bounced back up to them by Benitez, and they're going to have to rule on it under the NYSRPA decision. That's when the rubber will hit the road. The decision that comes out of that will be binding on Washington also.

As the state of Washington goes, so does Oregon.

This makes CA and the Federal AWB in the 90's seem like the good old days.

Back then in CA being pulled over coming home from my job at a shooting range and detained with backup because of a Glock 19 with a loaded mag inserted but unchambered in a range bag IN THE BED OF MY TRUCK was the breaking point. I headed north. I chose poorly.

Yep, I tell everyone that until 2014, WA state really was a pretty good state for gun owners. Lots of crappy things have happened since.

Below is my state representative. Her first attempt at legislation, which thankfully failed, was to remove felony status for driveby shooters if they were under 16. She apparently missed the point that a significant number of drivebys are done by shorties specifically because they won't get jammed up as bad as an older guy (18? 19?) when they shoot up a bus stop.

Tarra Denelle Simmons (born 1977) is an American politician, lawyer, and civil rights activist for criminal justice reform. Olympia, Washington, U.S. Bremerton, Washington, U.S. In 2011 Simmons was sentenced to 30 months in prison for theft and drug crimes.

Awesome. Lets give her a Cartel name like 'Olympia New Generation State Representative Cartel (NGSRC) so we can track her legislation attempts with her other cohort.

At this point, anything that makes a SCOTUS case more likely is probably a good thing. With the current make-up of the Court and the Heller and Bruen decisions on the books, there is probably not a better time to get the AWB issue before the court and get a good decision from them. That would put an end to the nonsense for a good long while.

In light of Heller, Bruen and the "in common use" test, how would a SCOTUS opinion read if/when a Washington State case goes before the court? "Come on all you woke states, please pay attention, we really mean what we say this time."

This bill is grossly over the top. I feel for all of our gun owning brethren there. For all of our sake, it must be defeated in the courts.
