“Dramatic bodycam footage has emerged showing a man armed with a knife charging at a Minnesota cop before being fatally shot by the officer.

Steve Mattson screamed warnings before firing at Ronald Davis on September 15 in the Midway neighbourhood of St. Paul, Minnesota, after the 31-year-old ran at him with a blade.

The video, which was released by the St Paul's police department on Tuesday, shows Mattson shooting Davis dead after telling him to 'put down the knife,' which he ignored.

On Sunday, before police released the footage, protesters carrying 'Black Lives Matter' marched from the Saint Paul Western District to the location Davis died…”

Why didn't the cop just shoot the knife out of his hand? Besides, the cop escalated directly to his gun, and not pepper spray or baton. This knife wielding psychopath bent on murdering this cop didn't have to die.

Thought body cams were going to reveal massive police racial bigotry. So far they appear very beneficial to cops.

I predicted that a few years ago Fred. When the public sees the bs that the Police have to put up with on a daily basis they will be shocked was what I said. And the only way for them to see it is through the use of body cameras. Some guys still don't like them and a few bad apples have been fired because of them but I still say the Police will benefit from them big time.

I agree, the cop escalated the situation. He should have talked to the guy with the knife as he was stabbing him. Maybe he would have only stabbed the officer a few times and then he could turn his life around. Some people have to learn the hard way.

Keep in mind, this guy didn't just attack the officer with a knife... He rammed the officer's patrol car from behind with his vehicle, and then rushed the officer with a knife as the cop was exiting the vehicle.

This was a straight-up ambush, with multiple acts of violence involved.

He likely intended to disable/distract the officer with the car wreck, and then kill him before he could defend himself.
