I don't know why but I really like the idea of a diesel TJ Unlimited. https://cumminsengines.com/repower.aspx http://www.fourwheeler.com/how...mins-in-tj-wrangler/ My daughter can deflate your daughter's soccer ball.

TorFab put one in an FJ62. Pretty sweet setup. If only my money tree would bloom... _______________________________________ Do you only play? Or can you shoot too?

It would be a great upgrade to the wrangler. They are not great on gas... But you would need to justify the cost by driving it a lot. Also remember diesel costs more than gas.. (I do not know why). The new Nissan truck has a cummins option that might be cheaper _______________________________ 'The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but > because he loves what is behind him.' And it totally screws up the balance of it, because the diesel engine is heavier.

The EPA is why. Their mandates on diesel fuel sulfur content. It used to be low sulfur diesel for the street, now it's Ultra low sulfur which drives the price way up (refining process). That and taxes. I buy lots and lots of offroad diesel (which used to be high sulfur and is now low sulfer but not ultra low) and I'm paying $1.90-$2 a gallon for it. (Usually 500-1000 gallon quanitities.)

diesel is not more expensive than RUG any more. but it certainly was for many years. at least in my neck of the woods.

One of my renters pulled a Hemi out of a wrecked dodge truck and installed it in his Jeep Wrangler. He bought the wrecked truck really cheap and took the engine out and parted out the rest to recap most his money. His latest project is a Jeep pickup truck that has some type of diesel engine in it. I realize it's not a big-ass Cummins diesel, but the 2018 or 2019 Wrangler will have a diesel option. ------------------------------------------------------ Though we choose between reality and madness It's either sadness or euphoria

It more than just the EPA low sulfur mandate. A barrel of crude oil, when refined, produces less gallons of diesel than it can of gasoline. That's just chemistry. Your off-road diesel is a lot cheaper because you don't pay state and federal road taxes for it.

And offroad is refined less and there's more of it. I still pay marine taxes on the offroad and sales tax.....but the fact I'm getting it for $1.95 per gallon with the marine tax included plus 6% tax, and the diesel price on the street right now is around $2.89 a gallon for USLD tells you a lot.

A friend had the diesel engine in his Grand Cherokee. It was a Mercedes Benz diesel. Very very expensive to repair. And, as many MB devices have proven, they will fail. ------- Trying to simplify my life...

I want that, but my upgrade budget says no. Maybe I can find a decent appropriately sized diesel engine in something that's been wrecked. ------------- $

It would be really nice if we could get a 70 series Land Cruiser, available to most of the rest of the world, including ISIS, except not here in the USA. 4.2 diesel, and LandCruiser stability. The pickup model (they also have SUV models):

I love the idea of a 4cyl turbo diesel in a Wrangler (or any light truck). The big gas guzzling V6s & V8s are a bit much IMO. I really wanted one of the diesel Ford Ranger crew cabs the Afghan Army uses. Flat tan with roll bars and offroad bumpers, those were sweet. “People have to really suffer before they can risk doing what they love.” –Chuck Palahnuik Be harder to kill: https://preparefit.ck.page
