Gents, it’s been a while since I’ve visited or commented. Hope all is well with each of you.

I’m sure many of you have seen the Canadian Liberals under Justin Blackface Trudeau roll out new gun control campaign promises, threatening to ban military-style rifles and allow lower jurisdictions to further restrict or ban handguns.
- 1st, let me beg y’all to never allow registration - it clearly leads to confiscation.

- Secondly, find ways to unite gun owners - hunters continually undermine sport and defense shooters, and somehow that has to stop. They will sell you down the river in hopes of being insulated from the gun grabs.

- Thirdly, how do I successfully move to the USA? If Trudeau gets in again, I don’t think I want to keep working my ass off in Canada, paying high taxes to a government that says I am the cause of “community suffering”.
I have 15 years oil and gas experience - 5 years as an operator in a natural gas facility, and 10 as an operator & manager in a refinery, the last 5 being in management (process unit, emergency response, and now labour relations) so I’m sure I have a unique skill set, I just don’t know how to leverage it.
Exxon would unlikely transfer me permanently - they typically just allow 2-4 year terms.

Can anyone point me to good resources so I can better understand how to immigrate the right way?

Sincerely,

Trevor Huisman

Not sure how you can get here but there are plenty of jobs in your field of expertise in the Houston area.

Apply for asylum. You clearly have a case, since you're fleeing a tyrannical government. Cool

Apply for a job with another gas/oil company. They can apply for a Visa. It's how all of India came to America/Silicon Valley to work for Google.

"The designer of the gun had clearly not been instructed to beat about the bush. 'Make it evil,' he'd been told. 'Make it totally clear that this gun has a right end and a wrong end. Make it totally clear to anyone standing at the wrong end that things are going badly for them. If that means sticking all sort of spikes and prongs and blackened bits all over it then so be it. This is not a gun for hanging over the fireplace or sticking in the umbrella stand, it is a gun for going out and making people miserable with." -Douglas Adams

The trouble with fighting for human freedom is that one spends most of one's time defending scoundrels. For it is against scoundrels that oppressive laws are first aimed, and oppression must be stopped at the beginning if it is to be stopped at all. -Mencken

If I'm not mistaken, Houston has a huge industry in oil/gas.

With his experience, that just might be the place.

Houston area for oil (all the big refineries are there), DFW for gas.
I shall start looking for jobs, and find more detail on that work visa process.

Match.com and score an American chick Big Grin

I'm in oil & gas and worked in Canada for 2 years because my multi-national employer got me a Visa. In the US, I've worked with many Canadians who were here on Visa. The US economy is doing great but that hasn't been the story in oil & gas so expat assignments are sparse.

Find a job here and have an employer sponsor you or have your current employer transfer you here and look for a new employer while you’re working.

US govt has websites explaining work visas and naturalization.

Or fly to Mexico and walk across claiming to be a transgendered Sasquatch in need of asylum.

Cmon guys - the man asked a serious question.
This thread is simply filled up with bullshit of "just pretend you're mexican".

Wasn't there a thread from mods recently about giving constructive meaningful advice when asked - and to keep the nonsense to a minimum?

Registration would never work in this country, there would massive non-compliance. Sure, a small handful of fuds would register their guns or turn them in, but the rest of the populace would have a massive boating accident. It happened in NYS when registration of assault weapons became law with the safe act. When the .gov finally was forced to release the figures, it was found that 44,000 rifles were registered out of the estimated 1 million plus "assault" firearms in the state.

I wish you success in your wish to come to America, Texas is a great place to live and work. My GF is an immigrant who came here the right way. It took her many years to become a citizen but it is doable and she's more proud to be an American than most native born Americans.
