I would be surprised if Bondo has the tensile strength to hold up without any reinforcement.
I like the idea of making a mold but I would use something like resin and fiberglass or a hard rubber product.
I have used it to fill in and form on many parts such as interior but never on a complete fill in a mold.

First question I ever asked in the tech section of ih8mud was about cup holders, so I feel a kinship with the OP here. I was mercilessly mocked, lol.

^Thank you so much!

The Bondo turned too white after curing overnight, so I decided to paint it after all...

36k original miles. I inherited it from my father a couple years back. He did not do much driving the last few years of his life.

This Bondo vs. 3d printing question -

Why go to the effort to scan, load and print such an object with comparatively expensive equipment and your invested time/skills/experience when you can mix up some mud (Bondo), press it into a cup and have a finished product? The Bondo involves Elementary school, second grade skills and you get good quality results. Why the high tech effort? The OP did it right the first time.

Great job on this project! But, what really caught my eye was the cassette player, with a tape in it! I haven't seen one of those in decades!

Once you do the "elementary" part, then scanning it into a 3d file for production should be kids play for someone in the bay area, where tech abounds.

Once you have the 3D file then getting it printed would be easy.

Amazon still sells cassettes. I actually only have one.

Aha, now I see.

I'm sorry for your loss. He left you a treasure, for sure.
