The drink holder on my '93 4Runner is this flimsy pop-out tray that probably seemed cool in the 90s but is nearly worthless in practice. I really wished for a simple center console holder, but how?

There is a small nick-nack tray in the console. I coated the inside with wax to work as a release agent, also on the outside of my favorite water bottle. I then carefully poured Bondo putty into the cavity and let it cure. A little trimming and sanding, and now I have my drink right where I want it.

I suppose if I wanted to make any more, I would dimension the mold and do some 3D printing, but this is fine for now.

Sorry for the dumb question, but why not just 3-D print it?

I guess maybe because you don't have a 3-d printer Smile :headscratch:

Bondo is also handy for repair of painted wood surfaces.

I believe you'd have to pour a mold anyway to make a template. In this case the mold is the final piece, saving me a step. If I had to make any more, then I'd 3D it based on the first casting.

And I don't have a 3D printer (though I could get access to one if I had to).

That's actually a cool idea. Are you going to paint it to match or leave it as is?

I was going to paint it to match the interior, but I kinda like the light blue-gray contrast, so I sprayed some clear coat just to seal the Bondo. Can always refinish it later.

Got a question: I was looking at a dry rot area of the fascia board behind the house.
It's a small area. I have a can of Bondo. If I open it can I just mix the two parts together for this small job without having to toss the whole can?
I also have some Milliput, but haven't used it for wood repair.

^Are you asking if you can just make a small batch without using the whole can? Of course, that's what I did. Still have like 1/3 of the can still left. No idea what the shelf life is once the can is open, however.

I had my 1990's vintage oak kitchen cabinets painted last year. The painter used Bondo as a grain filler. They turned out smooth as silk. You would never guess they were oak.

LOL - had some wood rot on the ends of some 8x8 beams outside the house (decorative) which needed to be painted.

Painters dug away the rot and replaced the wood with Bondo then repainted.

Been going great for the last five years.

3D scan it to get it ready for 3D print or for making a mold of it, write up a description, patent the design and market it on the Taco Forum, of course you will need to do it with a Big Gulp 72 oz as well. Get a contract with a chinese company to make thousands for a few pennies each.

Think of all the ammo and new guns you could buy with the proceeds...
