Hi all

I moved into a townhouse with a Gerber toilet (never even heard of this brand before) and I was installing a toilet rebuild kit, I found that the tank-to-bowl gasket was not suited for this type of toilet. They need to be taller for Gerber toilets.

OK, found this on Amazon and bought it.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000BQPGDY

Reassembled the toilet and its still leaking. It doesn't have the cutout for the hex washer that attaches the flush valve to the tank so could that be the problem?

Maybe the threads for the flush valve are too long? My last ditch effort is to cut them down so that the gasket fits a little better on the end of the flush valve.

After that I am going to need a plumber.

Thanks

Jim

do you own or rent?

If you own, you might compare the cost of a plumber to putting in a new toilet. Toilets are pretty easy to install and not horribly expensive. I've replaced all my 'builder' grade potties with Kohler or American Standard that are 'handicapped' height. IMO, that's a much better height for a throne. I pretty much stick with the best deal on a low end price from one of those two companies.

I had 2 of them in my house. Often needed multiple flushes to clear and are now replaced with Toto's.

Its a rental. Im done screwing with it...the landlord can sort it out.

And I am also having flush issues with the other ones in the house...they seem to clog at least 1x per week.

Big Grin To be fair, they’re only designed to flush stuff of this consistency:

Funny because I saw one today in a BBQ place when I lifted the seat. Never heard of Gerber before. It had a powerful flush.

The Amazon gasket is correct for a Gerber close coupled toilet without a pressure tank. They are B grade china but usually flush very well. It depends on the age of a low gallon flush toilet if they work well or not, i.e at what point in low flush evolution they were made.

. . . but with the pressure tank it takes the 99-591 tank-to-bowl gasket. A dense green donut of a gasket. Takes a bit of a touch to get the tank tightened properly to the bowl, as the gasket does not easily compress. I can usually get them for six bucks each, sometimes as a kit the the gasket, channel pads, and plastic wing nuts.

Non-handicapped people using tall toilets is detrimental to taking a good shit. Humans are supposed to squat, not sit.

Depends on how tall someone is. I’m almost 6’3” and a standard height toilet makes me feel like I’m sitting on the ground. I do agree with you though for someone who is average height or shorter.
