There is a bridge nearby where the clearance is 6' 8" and it makes for some entertainment for pickup trucks.

Here is a 10'6" one that has some wicked curbs that kick cars into each other for appetizers.

All these tall trucks and RV's, but not a single car carrier!

No, I don’t. Maybe I’m deprived. Or maybe I just figured out a SigForum puzzle…

Fredericksburg VA area. This one scares the living shit out of me in my sedan. My work van clears it by around 5", I think I would go the long way around if I had to cross it in my van.
Sorry crappy google pic, don't have one my phone.

The Can Opener is a good one. At 12'7", it just shears the top of the trailer off like a sardine can. This message has been edited. Last edited by: trapper189,

The Ohio Dept of Transportation has a full time team to evaluate bridges after they have been hit. It is a weekly if not daily occurrence in our state. The sad thing is according to their design manuals the lowest bridge permitted is something like 15 feet.

There's a bridge in Dallas that regularly chews up trucks. The worst thing though, is that by the time you realize that the bridge is too low there's no way to turn around. The police have to come and block traffic to clear a path to back out.

There are a pair of bridges on Lawrence Ave in Chicago between Cicero and Lamon that are 13' 4' and 13' that have eaten many a trailer. There is another bridge around the corner on Wilson that is 12' 6". If you look at them on Google street view, you can see how torn up they are from being hit so often.
Accidents at those bridges were featured on the short lived TV show Wrecked in '08 or '09.

The sign shows 9'2" clearance.
My delivery truck is 9'3". Might be worth a try though, you never can tell -- I might make it through.

I was traveling WB on I70 one summer in my motorhome. There was a multiple fatality that had traffic backed up for 10 miles stopped all traffic. I heard this on the CB we took the first exit and planned to travel parallel to the freeway. There was a railroad bridge I came up on that was close I hit my spring mounted CB antenna. About a mile down the road was a semi pulled over the trailer top was flipped back thebolts on bridge sticking down cut the top on each side edge. These bridges are marked with warning signs well in advance. I just don’t get how you can’t have that in your mind and not knowing how tall you are.

The signs with flashing lights going off a block in front of the bridge were no help, nor were the “No Trucks” signs.
Legend has it that some years back, the Coke truck driver got caught by the Maine Street bridge. When questioned, he claimed he’d been under it before regardless of what the sign said. Apparently, loaded vs empty was enough to make a difference.

I don't have pic's but I would guess that there are around $300,000 worth of signs ,lights and barrier's at ours in Davenport,
trying to dissuade the truckers
