abnmacvHow does someone get a criminal defense lawyer?
When law enforcement want to talk to you just say "I want to speak to an attorney."

This is true
I once sat through a trial where I knew exactly what happened at the crime scene. After listening to the Defense (he wasn't a PD, he was appointed from the Panel)lay out their case in their opening statement, I started having my doubts about an easy conviction. He got a mistrial the first time around and just barely missed when the DA re-filed.
I also knew a PD who was very good. The local paper did a blurt on her when she went one year without losing a case

Ask prosecutors, not cops. But this is right. Assert your right to not talk and get a lawyer. Family may have to help if you are in custody of course, If you have reason to think this may come up, get counsel lined up in advance.
I haven't seen any of your posts in a long while. Good to see you.

V-TailIt was around 1969 or 1970 that I discovered a friend's body (later determined to be accidental, self-inflicted death).
Cops started to interrogate me, they were very aggressive and belligerent. I called a lawyer friend to ask what to do. He (lawyer friend) was not criminal defense, he was lawyer and CPA and most of his practice was tax-related, with a bit of aviation stuff thrown in (he was a pilot, that's how I met him).
He spoke to the cops on the phone, don't know what he said to them, but they immediately backed out of the interview room and left me alone.
Lawyer showed up, allowed questioning to proceed, shot down every one of the cops' questions, and we were out of there within the hour, never heard from the cops again.
Side notes: Some of my girlfriend's clothing was in my closet. Cops' line of questioning included asking if I was a cross-dresser. Lawyer told them that only an imbecile would ask that question, given the GF's tiny shoes and my size 13 feet.
A LARGE jar of silver dimes that I had been saving was nowhere to be found after the cops searched my house.

Pale HorseThanks for all the replies. I do appreciate it. I spoke to the lawyer who represented me in my divorce and he recommended a good criminal defense attorney who is very pro 2A in my area who told me to call him 24/7 if I ever needed anything. Hopefully I don’t but it’s nice to have a number available in case the worst happens.
