Is their competition hiring? Or maybe you could be the competition? You hinted they were not taking care of business properly.

That may be an option, the severance package has some strong language on non-compete though.

Another option might be going to work for for our largest account , that would be fantastic as they are a 1st rate company and I have long term deep relationships there. I handled them for 11 years and they are not happy with how this went down.

Wish you the best. World has changed and so have we -like you I believe and grew up with a focus on performance. Unfortunately, 20years and companies look to turn over the older and longer term employees. I’m 50 and 19 years and can see this coming in next few years.

Good news is - there is stil a lot of great companies looking for good folks and still value performance. Good luck!

Sounds like you will probably be O.K. but, still rotten luck to start the new year off with. All the best to you.

Same thing happened to me on December 18, 1998. Profession speaking, the best thing that ever happened to me. I hope it will turn out that way for you too.

Look closer at your non-compete clause. It's going to be hard for a company to say "you can't work for us any longer and, oh by the way, you can't work for our competition in the same industry either."

Good luck to you. I worked for some of the biggest medical device/pharmaceutical companies. People are simply numbers to the bottom line and it is nothing personal. You've been there 20 years so it's not like people didn't like you nor found you undesirable.

I would like to suggest that you take the opportunity of not having a job and its responsibilities to go and take a well deserved vacation. Get away to someplace warm. When was the last time you were able to get away and completely relaxed without having to worry about what was happening in the office?

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

I work for a global medical device(s) manufacturing company. We are FDA regulated as well as every 3rd world version of the FDA.

Shoot me an e-mail with your skill set and lets see if there is a fit for you somewhere. Maybe so, maybe no but it would be worth looking at it.

Sorry to hear this, but as others have said, I'll bet you come out of it better off. My line of work doesn't suffer many layoffs, but my dad was in the computer industry for the last 20 years of his career and went through several layoffs. Each time was stressful for him with kids and bills, but every time he landed something better.

This would be an excellent option. You know the business, they know and trust you. It would be win-win.

Well, I feel for you. I have been there and it does suck. So, I started out on my own. Best decision EVER!

It's not for everyone. It's scary for one thing and it's lonely for another. However, after my first million dollars it wasn't as scary or lonely.

I'm sorry to hear your news liner. I was laid off in 2014 after 16.5 years. After 6 very miserable months at a job and 2 1/3 years at a dead-end job, I've finally found not only a job, but a potential career. I've been there since July, 2017 and can see myself being there a long time.

Use you severance wisely, keep your head up, and make finding a job your new job. There is hope, I know. Best of luck in your search!

I've lost three jobs in my adult career – all because of company/division closures. In each case, the next job was as good as, or better than, the previous. Hope that turns out to be the situation for you. Good luck!
