old rugged crossSmall inexpensive pickup camper?
Who are the makers for small pickup campers for full size pickup short box.
I see Freedom campers. Who else. I don't need a bunch of stuff. Just bare bones, insulated. Thanks guys.

lastmanstandingLarge, medium or small campers are anything but inexpensive these days. But they are cheaply made. For a small truck camper I'd search for used. The used camper market is usually pretty good. People will buy them and want an upgrade a few years later. Most major manufacturers will make campers of all sizes for all applications.

reflex/deflex 64Lance has long been the go to for high quality slideins. The problem is none of them are small or inexpensive for what you are getting.
All of them are heavy, do your research. I would never consider one of them for a half ton truck, HD trucks will benefit from air spring assist.
There are some pretty nice cap based builds on YouTube. That might be the option that fits your criteria.

oddballI bought a Leer shell for my first Tacoma decades ago, it was not bad. I currently have a 2010 Tacoma with a Snug Top camper shell, and it is showing a little wear and tear.

I use a very similar setup though home made. My mistake was getting a cab height shell. I should have gotten the higher roof model (I believe 4") Sitting up with the low roof is uncomfortable at best

GustoferDo those carpet kits pull out easily so a fella could use the truck as a truck when not camping?

smlsigFor a bare bones camper shell look at the Project M at Four Wheel Campers. Then it goes up from there depending on your taste and budget…

GustoferI've always thought
these were kind of cool. If I was doing a lot of truck camping I'd look seriously at one.

YooperSigsRelated: I once looked for a basic, slide in camper for the truck I then owned. Once I learned the price, I told the sales guy I was not interested. I made the mistake of giving him a card with my phone number and email address on it. Big mistake! What followed was several weeks of text messages, voice mails and emails from the guy. It got so bad I ended up calling the dealership General Manager to get it to stop. Worst high-pressure sales tactic I have ever experienced! I hope it does not happen to you!

Installation and removal is very simple and easy. The entire kit can be installed or taken off of your truck in less than a minute."

But we had an 8 ft bed.
At our age now , would not consider it, not for a minute.
