Looking for the best way to store bread, bagels, muffins, etc. so they last as long as possible. Currently we have been refridgerating our breads. Anything better?

Staring back from the abyss |
I keep my bread in the freezer. It only takes a bit in the toaster to thaw it out and it keeps forever. Years ago I tried a variety of different bread boxes and never found one that made any difference in bread longevity. ________________________________________________________ "Great danger lies in the notion that we can reason with evil." The new toaster my wife bought has a "frozen" button, and a "bagel" button (for toasting one side only).

We were always told not to freeze bread because it will dry out the bread by pulling the moisture out in the freezing process. If you're goin' through hell, keep on going. Don't slow down. I keep bread in the freezer, typically, as slowly as we use it. I buy two or three baguettes, chop them up and freeze those. When I want some, I take out what I need and either toast or microwave that. Same with specialty loaves I sometimes keep on hand, rye, sourdough, pumpernickel, etc. Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me. When you had the votes, we did things your way. Now, we have the votes and you will be doing things our way. This lesson in political reality from Lyndon B. Johnson "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." - Justice Janice Rogers Brown
