Holy First Amendment, Batman.
Schools have damn near unfettered power (Constitution notwithstanding) to regulate students while they are at school and doing school stuff. Searches, abridgment of speech, etc. I think the power afforded is overboard, but that is the state of the law. But this was a kid entirely on his own time. How can the school (state) regulate that?

Sending your kids to public school is child abuse.
I must be a really bad parent.
Public schools are part of a system that is controlled by Leftists. The more concerned a parent is about the education of his child, the more likely he will pay the price to have the child educated in a private school. Not only will the child score higher on his SAT, the right private school won't indoctrinate him to be what we now refer to as a "snowflake."

jhe888Schools here are hardly controlled by leftists. Texas includes creationism in science curricula.
Setting aside whether that is good policy (and I mean that - set it aside, it isn't the point in this thread), you can't say Texas schools are controlled by leftists.

It's not for lack of trying, though.

parabellumOh, yes, I'm convinced that the public school system in Texas is a bastion of conservative values. You bet, sure I am.
