If Biden’s wet dream gun control power grab were to be successful, you have to wonder how many “not a penny more” gun owners will admit their part in weakening the NRA so it could happen.

Fact is, many lie to themselves in thinking it’s ok to assist the left in defeating the NRA because they give to Billy Bobs Liquor Emporium and 2A PAC. Because you know, you hear Pelosi talking about how big their global reach is constantly. , right?

I don't think the question is his salary. It is that he is abusing the rules for non-profit corporations in terms of his lavish spending of company money for personal use. If the NRA looses it's clout, LaPierre need only look in the mirror for the cause.

It's never been a question of his salary. The questions are the shady as all get accounting practices to hide how much he is actually getting paid. If what he was getting paid was on the up and up, there would be no reason to have the NRA's advertising agency paying a portion of his expenses and billing it to the NRA as advertising/consulting fees.

Go ahead and download Publication 535 ( link ‘cause someone’s gonna ask and it’s too damn complicated for a forum). It’s gonna boil down to accountable vs. nonaccountable plans, expense reimbursements vs reported salary (taxable benefits, etc.), and how all moneys are covered and reported.

When gov blackface tried to impose a huge wave of gun control buttfuckery in VA the other year, it was NOT the NRA that blunted those efforts. The VCDL and average concerned citizens did the lion’s share of that awesome work. The NRA’s response was a day late and a dollar short. Until the NRA jettisons Wayne LaFuckstick they will not be the nasty beast they were in the 1990’s.

Very true. NRA seemed just about invisible, when we needed their 800-lb gorilla.

Seems to say it's not the amount of $$, rather the lack of ethics.

Sidenote to cpa. Are you suggesting tax laws might be a bit complicated?? Wink (I used to grade homework for the tax prof).

Like so many others here I also tend to object to one man having what looks like a lifetime lease on the leadership of the NRA. And like so many others I wonder HOW he keeps that control and how much longer he will be able to maintain it. But I think I can say with some degree of assurance that we will not have much longer to wait to get answers to these questions. I tremble in my boots when I think of the choice(s) that the American voters made in this last election. Like my brother, Frank, also a forum member, I stand in complete amazement when I consider HOW the electorate voted against a man with a list of accomplishments as stellar as Donald Trump's and as communist and destructive as Biden's.
As I see things, two things are certain: That we will soon be faced with the choice of whether to STAND and die as men - or live on our knees as slaves; and (2) that the American electorate - in general - cannot be trusted to intelligently vote FOR the principles and morals that have sustained this country for the past 240 years. I'm scared, boys. And I'm scared more of the damage that my fellow citizens will do to my country than of what the Russians or the Chicoms will do. And I know.... deep in my heart I know - that while it is easy to boast of how we will all pull our guns and use them without hesitation when the time comes it will NOT in fact be that easy. So I would urge ALL who complain about LaPierre to at least GET BEHIND SOMEONE!.... because I KNOW that almost any form of organized resistance is preferable to none at all. ........ FredT

I live in VA. I went to Richmond six times last year, Lobby Day and when the VCDL asked for people to attend hearings. I saw and heard an NRA lobbyist in several of the legislative hearings. I saw a VCDL guy. But I must have missed the GOA guy. I have been a life member of the NRA for many years. I used to always vote for Neal Knox. I was not happy with the NRA's support of the 1986 Machine Gun Ban. But I do not think tearing down the NRA is the right answer. Nobody has yet answered how much money Wayne should make. I do not know all of the intricacies of executive pay structure. But I know the IRS is not above abusing its' power. I do not thing all of the people jumping on Wayne have the best interests of the NRA or gun owners at heart. No one has yet told me how much the head of GOA should make either. I generally don't say I do not like how much someone is paid or how their pay is structured until I know how much they should be paid.

I may be looking at this "without enough depth," but as I sit here tonight I think I care far less about how much LaPierre gets paid than I care about how little it appears NRA is working for us right now.

NRA is our 800-lb gorilla, but it appears that the organization is contemplating its navel way more than it's raising Cain with congress-critters.

That said, I also appreciate the efforts VCDL and GOA have put forth while NRA sits and contemplates.

God bless America.

I think it has been explained, the issue is not the amount of money he made or he should make. The issue his self serving dishonesty in reporting the numbers, following the rules.

That's fair.

He should either step up and make solid explanations, or step aside. Either way, we need for the organization to resume being helpful to us... with him or without him.

I agree.

And a bit of a repeat, the LaPierre dirt came out about 4 years ago. Had he done a mea-culpa back then and changed his ways, it would likely be a non issue today.

I met LaPierre at the Las Vegas Antique Arms Show about ten years ago. He was walkng the aisles all by himself dressed casually in slacks and a sport shirt. I recognized him, so I walked up and introduced myself. I thanked him for all that he had done for gun owners. He was most gracious and impressed me as a down to earth guy. He even gave me his business card with his email and phone number. Two years ago, I saw him in the NRA booth at the SHOT Show. In the interim, he had acquired the $1000 suit, the entourage and a security detail.Wayne is the textbook example of the axiom, power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

I agree 100% with Pincus and have posted that repeatedly since the story first broke 1.5 years ago. I am an Endowment level member and I want the NRA to be the 800 lb gorrilla that makes Congressional Critters piss their pants. To do that they need to clean house (e.g. LaPierre), set-up appropriate financial controls (fixing their tax return is a good start), treat their legal entities separate as required by laws (i.e. stop intermixing funds), audit their subcontractors (e.g. ad agencies and lawyers), and they need to significantly decrease the number of board members (there is no oversight when there is a 76 member board).

NK402, I would guess that Wayne's bespoke suits has a price tag of $5000 or more.

I think the day I saw him, the $5000 suit was in the cleaners and he was wearing last year's model

Like so many of you I belong to the NRA (Benefactor) as did my late wife (also a Benefactor). The problem seems to go well beyond Lapierre to the Board which has fiduciary and corporate governance responsibilities to oversee the organization. There is very little transparency into how independent the board is and how it carries out its responsibilities. Nor can we overlook the question of who hired the former Chief of Staff responsible for a "tell all" book this fall. Reform of the NRA will need to come from within before it is imposed by outside parties. The lack of active NRA campaigning during the 2019 elections in Virginia probably contributed to the success of gun control efforts (nor am I aware of any national campaign by the NRA during this year's national election). Until I see signs of real reform at the NRA I will withhold further support.

The board needs to step up and show Wayne the door. He cannot be a distraction. As was mentioned before this is not a lifetime appointment. One should always endeavor to go out on top, now Wayne will have to go out in a cloud of suspicion (best case).

Now is the time to be vocal to NRA board members and paid staff, not abandon it. A weak NRA does none of us any good the next four years.
