It's funny you should bring that up. His MOS is 0352 - Infantry, Anti-tank Missileman. For a long while, he was the senior missileman in the battalion, and as inexperienced as he was, was training other marines. He is still "up there" with respect to seniority among missilemen. It's an understaffed MOS from what I gather.

LS1 GTOIf not mentioned yet, when he gets home (the next time you see him) gently knee him in the leg - he’ll understand.

mbinkyCongrats to the both of you! Picking up Sergeant in four is an accomplishment. Besides getting the score you have to know your job AND how to be a good Marine NCO. His MOS may be light but you still need to know what you are doing to pin on.

He said gently lol

(Although that should have happened when he picked up Corporal...I think I limped for a week...)

Rey HRHCongrats. Sgt in marines or air force is a big deal. In 3 years is impressive. I made E4 soon as I graduated bootcamp; I was a pushbutton nuke. Navy was giving them away like gedunk.
"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." lowflashCongratulations to your son. In the pre Viet-Nam Marine Corps E-4 Corporal in four years was good. During Viet-Nam E-5 Sgt in three years was not uncommon. Three to four years E-5 Sgt was the norm if you were a responsible individual. I personally know one individual that made E-6 Staff Sargent one day before his four year enlistment expired.

You are correct he would have received his blood stripes when he was promoted to Cpl. Although this right of passage has been frowned upon for many years now due to injury.
