Go to an artist supply or office supply store and see if they have chartpak dry transfers. Clean the surface of any grease or residue, apply the necessary transfers and coat with clear lacquer.

If the markings are engraved, there is a product made expressly to renew worn marking

The more I think about it, I think I'm going to pay (call) the man!

The decals are identical to original text, some of which I can't even see anymore. If I clean the surface well enough, hopefully they'll stay put for a long time.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Can’t you just use ‘relative position’ with your knobs & temp? You kinda know where medium is, often with cooking it’s ‘a little more’, ‘a little less’.

Going by Murphy’s law/luck, by the time you get the marks fixed the stove will go kaput.

I think I’d just leave it be.

Same problem, but in reverse...markings are on the knobs. I think I will purchase white knobs with black numbers one day. The LG official knobs are $92 per each. Who are they kidding?

Just so I'm clear, this is an electric stovetop, right?

I wonder if you can get that panel off and get it to a local laser engraver. Fiber lasers can anneal mark stainless steel. If done well, it would be a permanent solution. I've done this at work.

I ordered the decals. They are specific to this model. And the text/numbers are small and complicated. Using a label maker or paint by hand would be virtually impossible. I figure if I can get the stainless steel really clean...Windex followed by alcohol, the decals should last for quite a while. Time will tell.

Thanks for all the thoughts.

I see you ordered the decals, but I still wonder…

The art stores used to stock some stencil type things, sheets of letters and numbers you could place over your item and rub with a pencil to transfer. I wonder if that’s an available product still?

Kids used to use them to make [really bad] fake IDs back in the day, I’m told. Wink

^^^ Could be, but did you see my photos on page 1? It's not very straightforward. And this will have to be cleaned in the future. I think the decal route will end up being more cleanable....as long as it sticks well. Again, time will tell.

Hey, how are your floors coming along?

I did see the pics… maybe those transfers aren’t really the right solution. Shoot, I’m glad you found the decals, even if they are fairly expensive. Nice find!

Floor work is coming along. I figured we could have the three rooms and a hallway done in about three days. Fifty hours into it over five days, and I still have half a bedroom and two closets to work on, plus a couple of transitions into bathrooms. I’m mighty tired, and taking tonight off. If you count the furniture-and-stuff moving, I’ve been on this project for nearly a month now. I’ll post some pics and a progress report soon (probably tomorrow at this point).

Got an Automatic Center Punch? I'd adjust it low(er) on the tension/force, and punch a dimple at every number on the scale. Increase the force if necessary to get a good dimple, but I'd think just having dots, which could be filled with Testors model paint would be all you'd need.
