I'm cleaning out and want to have someone come and carry off a bunch of shit. It's mostly nonfunctional electronic stuff (computers, printers, a huge CRT monitor, sound bars, air purifiers, etc.)

I was thinking of using 1-800-GOT-JUNK.

Anyone have any experience with this or any suggestions?

I used them in Anchorage and Calgary. The college aged kids that came to my door were Chick-fil-A polite and hard working.

I've used 1800GOTJUNK a couple of times. They do a really good job, but they're more expensive than it should be IMO. I paid them $400 to haul away an old sofa and one big box (think lawn mower size) of old electronics. That included a $25 recycling surcharge for an old computer monitor. Cheaper than renting a dumpster from the garbage company, but still spendy.

Check around for local electronics recycling centers. That's what we did.

For non-electronic, non-hazardous waste: A Waste Management Bagster can be cost effective, or a small dumpster.

A small dumpster can be more economical, but will have a time limit on it. A Bagster you can leave sitting out by your curb as long as you need.

Around here, there are tons of one day drop off electronic recycling places on Earth Day. If Shugart can hang on to April 22nd there are likely many drop-off places for electronics.

It was him and his son and an old truck, but the results were the same, he picked up all my crap, and we had a big pile in the garage, and an old tank of a treadmill to carry out. Well worth it

Around here, there are frequently household electronics drop off days at local dumps/recycling centers, where they will accept stuff like that for free or cheap.

Just how much stuff do you have? I'd only rely on hiring a junk hauler if you had a truly large amount of junk. But if it's just like part of a garage worth of electronics, which is what it sounds like you have, it would probably fit in a load or two in a car (depending on just how big the CRT is), and therefore probably wouldn't be worth the expense when you could just transport it to the dump or recycling center yourself.

I used 1-800-JUNK to get rid of the final unclaimed stuff and junk from my parents' house. They did an excellent job and were really, really fast and thorough. But you pay for that level of service, which I do not regret.

The Bagster is pretty inexpensive to buy, around $35, give or take a bit, in my area. The cost to get it picked up is around $170, so total cost would be just a bit over $200.00

However, "sitting out by your curb as long as you need" would definitely not work in my area. The first time we had our roof replaced, the roofing company put a dumpster in our driveway for the old roof that they were stripping off. The dumpster was snugged right up to the garage, maybe 30' or 40' from the street.

The dumpster was delivered late afternoon. Early next morning, before the roofer guys even arrived to toss the first shingle in it, the dumpster was about 3/4 full. Neighborhood people had tossed their shit in it overnight.

I have used College Hunks twice to remove unwanted items. I am very satisfied with the service.

Used 800 got junk it was pricey. From now on I will just pay a local guy with number on the side of an old pick-up. As for electronics, take them to a recycling company and you'll walk away with lunch money in your pocket.

Some of it comes down to whether you want to load it out yourself or have somebody else do it for you.

Regardless if which way you go, make sure whomever is coming onto your property is properly licensed and insured. The number of people who never inquire about my insurance absolutely astounds me. If an uninsured person, who you have hired to do work is injured on your property doing that work, guess who's liable.
