Get my pies
outta the oven!

I want to buy my wife a cold-brew coffee maker for Christmas as she drinks very little hot coffee and loves the iced/cold brew stuff.

I got her a Bodum a few years ago and it worked OK but was a royal PITA to keep clean and I ended up tossing it.

The Bodum:

I seem to recall a "Swedish cold brew system" back when I was a teen at home like 30+ years ago, my parents had it. You had a large glass carafe that you'd fill with water and ground coffee and let sit in the fridge for a couple days then it got strained out somehow and the result was almost like a coffee syrup with little bitterness that you'd cut with boiling water or cold water depending on if you wanted hot or iced coffee.

I'd like to get something like that possibly, does anyone know what I'm talking about?

Does anyone have any other ideas on what to go with here?

Thanks!

We have been using this one from BB&B.

But the hardest part is the capacity.
The water to coffee ratio is 5~7 : 1 vs 17:1 for regular brewed coffee.
The above works great and easy to clean but you can't make a lot at one time and it takes 24 hrs to brew.
When I want to make more I take a large container and a tied up cheese cloth ball.
It isn't as easy but I get more.
YMMV

There was an extensive thread back in early-mid 2020 about cold brew makers. As a result I bought this which has been great:

The one I posted in there is still my go to weekday coffee. I’m not a morning person and from the time I walk out my bedroom door to the time I’m backing out of my garage is 5 min. I make up a pot on Sunday and have 20% of it Mon to Fri. It costs next to nothing, tastes great, and adds 30 seconds to morning routine.

Weekends, I still take the time to grind beans and make hot coffee in my technivorm while I’m cooking eggs.

That's the same one I use. I rarely drink cold brew, but occasionally decide I want to have some on hand during the summer.

As mentioned, it's easy to use and easy to clean, but the capacity is lacking if you're going to be drinking multiple cups every day.

For someone that wants a couple cups of cold brew per day, it's fine.
