Guy turned these in at the PD along with some other old ammo. I don't recognize these.

Vintage toy gun bullets.
Probably for a Nichols Stallion.
You put caps on the back of them and loaded your six shooter.

I remember seeing these in the early 1970s and wanting one!
But my parents were sure I'd loose all the little bullets.
Se we for roll cap guns like my dad had as a child.

Back in the early '60's, Mattel came out with a line of toy guns that fired spring loaded projectiles. On the back of each cartridge, you applied a Greenie-stick-um cap to provide the "bang." I had a snub-nosed revolver, a single shot long rifle and a derringer that fit into a belt buckle. Way backk when toy guns weren't considered evil.

Those would be an evil "choking hazard" now and the fact they were turned in to the popo is pathetic.

That makes sense. I never had a toy gun so sophisticated, my caps came in a paper roll. Big Grin

And thank you!

There will be collectors hunting these.
Please save them and somehow get them to the hand of someone who needs them in for a toy gun.

I'll see of I can find the exact manufacturer and which toys these went to.

I had those spring loaded cartridges as a kid. Those greenie stick caps were LOUD compared to regular caps...tons of fun!

Set a roll of caps upright on concrete, pound with hammer, debate if the sound is worth the family's/neighbors' response. Eek

The caps and hammer thing motivated my old man to kick my ass! He disapproved of the burn marks on the nice clean sidewalk left by the pop.
Warm childhood memories!

We had a Mattel derringer that fit into a belt buckle.
Load up your spring cartridge with a bullet, apply a greenie stickem cap, put it into the gun, place the derringer on the swing out arm of the belt buckle and push it into the latch.
Then you just had to push out your stomach and the buckle would release the latch, the derringer would swing out and fire.
Loved that thing when I was a little kid in the early 60's.

The OP is Nichols ammo.

What many of you guys are talking about are Mattel shootin' shell guns and ammo. There were Fanner 50s, a snub nose, and a couple of rifles.

A childhood pal of mine had a Fanner 50! Coolest cap gun ever! I'll admit I was jealous. His father owned the local grocery store in our small town which had a toy section so he had a supply of the caps available. They did keep us mere mortals supplied with roll caps too.

In my old town in CA no less, the local cop shop would usually refer people wanting to turn in anything that wasn’t totally illegal to my LGS to sell on consignment. Some refused and turned in to the cops. But Many folks would come in and at least get some cash out of whatever they didn’t want. The guys that worked there couldn’t sell old ammo but they would take it and anything that was usable got shot up or put up on your typical gun shop antique ammo display. Usually an elderly and didn’t want their deceased spouse gun in the house. So they would treat them fairly as far as used gun sales go.

Rookie Wink We'd take an empty .22LR casing, fill it with paper matchheads and hit it with a hammer obtaining the same result. Dumb kids that we were, no thought was given to where the brass shrapnel might go. Eek
