I have a 2013 328i that apparently needs the “IVM” replaced because it blew an internal fuse. The thing is, I can’t find what the hell the IVM is. The dealer wants $270 for it but I’m not letting them touch it till I know what the hell the part even is.

Situation awareness is defined as a continuous extraction of environmental information, integration of this information with previous knowledge to form a coherent mental picture in directing further perception and anticipating future events. Simply put, situational awareness mean knowing what is going on around you.

Not a BMW mechanic but I found its a Integrated Voltage Module. It has small relays or fuses in it. I read a soldered wire joint is famous for cracking and needs to be resoldered. It seems a easy fix. I read to disconnect your battery prior to doing. Search BMW IVM.

Bart: Alright, we'll settle this like men, with our fists.
Hedley Lamarr: Sorry, I just remembered . . . I am armed.

I have a friend in S0-Cal who is a BMW tech. I've texted him for the location of the module

he just texted me back. Exact message: Integrated in the DME, sometimes called ECM. I'm still questioning him

Thanks guys. The location puzzles me. I saw a few posts but they aren’t for the F30 body.

Just got off the phone with my friend. Some more information FWIW.

Part is under the dash near the fuse block. If this is installed by the dealer including labor this is a deal. If it requires programming it could be up to about two hours labor in addition. Part is different between the two door and the four door models

Also the two door car is different from the four door car a four door is called an S30 (may have misheard, maybe he said F30) and a two door hardtop is a E92 and a retractable hardtop is a E93

When the ECM came up he misunderstood what I was asking him. His and my apology for that

Looks like a bad solder joint on a relay from what I read.

I have fixed a few things on my 2007 335i E92, using bimmerfest advice and saved thousands. My attitude is: "Fuck it! It's already broken! So I can't hurt it more!"

This is the proper attitude. This, coupled with a Bentley manual is your key to BMW repairs.
