I retired today after 42 years with the government and I won’t miss one damm minute. Everything you hear about government waste isn’t true, it’s worse. All I can say is the money was good. I told my wife if anyone calls for tell them I'm not home.
I have two words for them. I think you know what they are! I’ll give you a hint, they start with F and Y.
I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all. -Ecclesiastes 9:11
...But the king shall rejoice in God; every one that sweareth by Him shall glory, but the mouth of them that speak lies shall be stopped. - Psalm 63:11 [excerpted]

Been retired 18 years, wife 21! Best damn job either one of us ever had. My last day was a Sat. Got up next morning, stretched, told her "I don't see how the hell I ever had time to work a 40 hour week!" Still true.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.
