5-7k. Motul real (100%) synthetic because they resist sludge build-up better . Oil is cheap. Engines are expensive and I do my own oil changes and keep my vehicles for years and years. ——————————————— The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Psalm 14:1

I'm an overkill oil changer. I do all my vehicles every 2500 miles. I'm retired so I don't put miles on very quickly. I also run a bit heavier oil in the hotter weather months. Works for me.

You’re correct. Regular Mobil 1 and many others are not a true synthetic. If the bottle says “full synthetic”, it’s not. If the bottle says “100% synthetic” it is made with synthetic base stocks. I am not sure about the Extended Performance Mobil 1 though. ——————————————— The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Psalm 14:1

LOL. I used to use Mobil1 exclusively, but since I bought my Cherokee, I use Mobil Super Synthetic instead b/c it's Chrysler MS-6395 rated. Not that Mobil1 is a lesser oil, of course, but they apparently got tired of playing Chrysler's games and paying their ridiculous testing/approval fees at some point, so Mobil1 doesn't carry the MS-6395 endorsement. I'll be damned if I'm giving FCA any reason to disclaim coverage under my unlimited mile/lifetime warranty, though. ![]() The oil life monitor (which is based on temp/speed/time vs. actual oil analysis) doesn't seem to care, so I just end up saving money buying it for $22/case at BJs and I get a full synthetic oil change for about $30. -Rob I predict that there will be many suggestions and statements about the law made here, and some of them will be spectacularly wrong. - jhe888 A=A

If I still changed my oil, I'd be using Royal Purple. Dealership is doing next three free with purchase of car so I don't need to worry about oil unit 2021 or so. I am getting my first change at 1,200 miles. Once I break a thousand miles I am going to open her up and bit and try some WOT runs, run it hard til 1,200 and get a Blackstone report as a baseline for what was in the oil from factory and break in period. My changes are free every 5k miles, so that's when I do them. Car was purchased very slightly used, that was part of the negotiated deal.

My Toyota Sienna fleet vehicle only gets an oil change every 10K miles. It does go in every 5K miles for tire rotation, fluid check, etc... but the oil/filter is only changed every 10K miles (full Synthetic). This is what the fleet company setup off of the manufacturer recommendations. My wife's Explorer is done every 5K miles with regular oil. Sometimes, you gotta roll the hard six

I don’t put many miles on my car, and many of my trips are very short (more fuel contamination from rich fuel mixtapes). So I have oil changes at ~2K miles. A fairly long interval time wise. Serious about crackers

I average about 15000 miles a year. I do my own every six months. I'm still using old new stock Mobil 1 LL01 oil that I bought on sale years ago. I'm almost out so I'm switching to Amsoil synthetic. My car doesn't have a dipstick. ![]() Not minority enough!

I have 5 vehicles, all get Mobile 1 full synthetic. 2010 Honda- only takes 4 qts. so every 5,000 2013 and 2015 Sonata- 5 qts. 7,000 miles 2010 Silverado- using the Mobile 1 extended interval ( claim 15,000 with Mobil 1 extended filter) 10,000 miles 2017 leased GMC Acadia- Mobile 1 extended interval, 12,000. No vehicle goes 1 year without oil being changed, the longest change interval is around 8 months. Living the Dream

Many modern cars now experience oil consumption due to low tension rings and other friction reduction tricks, my Honda Ridgeline being one, it's down just over 1/2 a quart by 5,000 miles which is about when I change it using 5W-30 full synthetic rather than the watery 0W-20 that they spec for this engine (only in North America). The oil minder would call for changes about 10,000 miles. My friend's 2018 CRV has the opposite problem it's oil level rises due to fuel dilution. By 5,000 miles when I changed it for her the level was about 1/4" *above* the full mark and the original oil was nasty black, water thin, and smelled of gasoline. It also calls for 0W-20 about every 7,000 mies but it's getting 5W-30 every 5,000 like my truck.
Wouldn't be the center Phillips head bolt to the metal shield under the engine would it? Hers was tight as hell. I didn't want to risk stripping the Phillips head so I ended up putting a jack under the screwdriver handle and raising the jack enough that it started lifting the car up on it's suspension then used a pipe wrench on the screwdriver handle to break it loose. Your dealer may have just sucked the old oil out. No car is as much fun to drive, as any motorcycle is to ride.

Well.... that sucks! I've been using Mobil 1 "high mileage". "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." -- Justice Janice Rogers Brown "The United States government is the largest criminal enterprise on earth." -rduckwor

So if "Full Synthetic" isn't, how does it differ from "Synthetic Blend"? Is it just a matter of what percent is synthetic? ... stirred anti-clockwise.

My 2018 Nissan Titan has an oil change reminder that triggers every 5k miles . I run it about another 500 miles or so and take it in for an oil change .

I generally try to change mine when the oil life monitor says 30% remaining, which is around 5-6000 miles. I drive on dusty dirt roads a lot and the teacup sized oil filter doesn’t seem big enough to hold 8000 miles worth of dirt.

I use Mobil 1 with a Mobile 1 filter and go 10,000 miles. It is mainly the filter that I worry about. If the car had a better filter with more capacity, I think the Mobil 1 oil can go a lot longer than that, but I worry that the filter clogs up sooner. The fish is mute, expressionless. The fish doesn't think because the fish knows everything.

Are you still in the 2 year 20k mile window? If so, you may need to adhere to the 5k interval or lose that benefit. One of the local dealership groups includes a free lifetime oil change benefit. They are doing this to get you to come in for routine maintenance and better maintained cars flow into their certified pre owned inventory. I understand, but will have to double check, you loose this benefit if you fall behind. This is a nice benefit - they use synthetic oil. If you're outside that two year window, pick your favorite oil and that will drive the interval. More frequent if you use conventional and longer if you use synthetic. I agree with jhe888, the life of the filter is probably the limiting factor if you use something like Mobil 1. Speak softly and carry a

This is the only real way to know, all else is speculation. I only pay around $35 for synthetic oil and a filter for my cars so I don’t go past 5000 miles - It’s cheap insurance. FYI the local AM car program in Houston has a few different mechanics that state the manufacturers maintenance intervals are designed to keep the original owner happy. Since most vehicles are not kept for more than a few years it keeps maintenance costs low so they will buy new again. The second and third owners will experience the problems. My Lexus RX350 manual claims the transmission fluid is lifetime fluid. That’s nonsense, no lubricant can last a lifetime when exposed to heat and contamination. The fact is that the more a vehicle is maintained the longer it will last.

I got a Million of 'em! |
Not Mobil 1 but I use the Castrol equivalent, Edge XTP, which is a full Synthetic 15K mile oil. I am on my second vehicle where I have taken it all the way to 15K every change. It is a ‘15 Subaru and I have 180K on it right now. The first vehicle I used it in was a Hyundai Santa Fe and I gave the vehicle up at 284K. It wasn’t the motor that caused me to give up it either. I actually think Castrol is reformulating it to be a 20K synthetic because I have been having a hard time finding it for my last oil change and the website now says 20K on it.
